Trying to apply the techniques I'm learning in school to OC stuff with mixed results. Attempting to challenge myself by drawing new expressions with equally mixed results. I hecked up and the eyes don't mach the rest of the face so it looks weird, my bad.Anton takes bedhead selfies now.

Wow Ally, this is truely amazing! The details in the shadows and the anatomy in the face is perfect. You have been working texture into your projects so well~ I'm super impressed with how the shadow on his chin is like... a line, but then on his cheek it's like ... fadey? If that makes sense? I have a super hard time trying to put celshading and soft shading together like that. Also the little blur around the sides really makes it look like a selfie. The eyes and nose and mouth are just gak-- beautiful.
If anything, I would have maybe spent a bit more time on his ears? I feel like it doesn't fit in as well as the rest of the face, but that's just my opinion.

Actually the rule of thumb that my professor taught us is when there's a cast shadow (like one body part making a shadow over another) then it's a hard edge, but when the shadow is turning the form (like how round forms become gradually shadowed) it's a soft edge. I totally disregard that rule a lot of the time, but it's helpful in making more realistic shadows???
Lol yeah I put maybe like... 20 seconds into the ears xD I was too distracted by the facial features to even think about them.

Ah... I've never really thought about it like that. That makes sense though? I should really try to add some different shadows in my work. I feel like... I can do hard edges good now, and soft shading, but like... i can't combine them well? I want to try though~ >3< ~~

I feel like the ideal kind of shading is a blend of hard and soft edges because that's like... what real life is. The hard part is figuring out how to combine them.

yeah >.< !! I know what you mean !! I see them it's just like o3o;; hard to put them together. I find then I try to combine them it doesn't look right at all idk. So now I only do soft shading, which I like but... yeah it's lacking that realism.

You have a really cute gallery though, if you keep practicing and drawing things you'll just continue improving and eventually I bet you'll be able to draw as well as you want to. :3 Figure drawing helps a lot too.

Noses are definitely very difficult... I've only figured out a way to draw them that I like very recently. Like everything else I think it just takes time and practice unfortunately Q-Q
