Description Komodo Joe and Pinstripe Potoroo are copyright of Crash Bandicoot by Activism. Faihzha Fennec is my original creation.

Looks like Joe has changed his mind about the wisdom of Pinstripe's antics. 😆 Pinstripe finally gets to shoot a gun as well. It's been quite a while, but his aim is still true!

Chapter 7 continued .......

Joe snorted. Imagining them switching garb, Pinstripe’s silken harem pants would indeed barely come to her knees. Were the female of Pinstripe’s species naturally bigger than the males? He’d not heard of such generally in the mammal kingdom. Though not the same species, Joe could not fault Pinstripe on his choice. Fierce and proud as a warrior, she was elegantly tall.

“I take it that’s the girlfriend?” Faihzha pulled up beside Joe. “Wonder what she sees in him?”

Joe felt himself give a rumble of protest. “That isss the bravest man I have ever met.”

    “Not to mention the craziest.”

Joe found himself nodding. “That too.”

“Incoming!” The female fox who’d been driving the ATV with Pinstripe’s girlfriend stood up, a megaphone in her hand. “If you seek to ally with us, get behind us! The desert raiders will not hesitate to try to capture you!” The black army’s vehicles on the fox’s signal quickly made a pathway through which the escaped could go through. To Joe’s surprise, there was one more heartfelt reunion. Faihzha handed over her vehicle to a struggling group and leapt onto the back of the other fox’s vehicle. “Sister! We are all allies here - rescued prisoners.”

“Tell me the story later.” The grizzled fox with a scar across one eye touched her forehead to the younger briefly, then raised her megaphone again at the oncoming army of soldiers.

“Give up, Mistress Cobra! We far outnumber you and we’re not letting you keep your prisoners!”

In response, gunfire started pattering the sand, too far to hit them, but coming closer.

“She ain’t stoppin.” Pinstripe’s voice cut through the stampede as people hastened to get behind the front lines.

Indeed, turning to look behind them, Joe could see the line of running soldiers peel back before an imperial sand buggy. Desert Flower herself was coiled, her hood unfurled, riding regally atop a hand-made throne and hissing out commands.

“Hey lady, can I borrow one a dose?” Pinstripe had snapped up a rifle before anyone could protest and run forward, diving into the sand as he neared the area the guns were starting to pepper.

“Pinstripe!” His girlfriend leapt for him, only to have Joe hold her back. Whatever his new ally was doing, Joe had utter confidence in him. Though how he thought he could stop such a massive army …

Pinstripe took careful aim and fired once, twice, three times. Nothing seemed to happen for a moment. Then the imperial buggy swerved in the sand, taking out a row of soldiers and throwing the cobra off the top. The first row of the army faltered, seeing their leader down, with those coming behind piling up on them in a tangled mess. She shrieked in rage at them.

“Black moses. He shot out her tires!” The fox general hissed. “Now’s our chance! Everyone load up! Triple the passengers. If we’re quick about it, we can outrun them!”

In the midst of the panic for vehicles, Joe took a moment, with a polite “Excuse” to haul Pinstripe’s astonished girlfriend onto his vehicle. No one else seemed too eager to get on with him. He drove a little forward, mindful not to get in range of the rifle fire. “Hurry up!” He called to Pinstripe who was aiming another shot. “Pinssstripe! We don’t have time!”

Pins looked up, nodded and climbed on the back. “You drive. I’ll keep ‘em off us.” Though he kept his gun trained on their adversaries, Pinstripe didn’t have to fire again. His girlfriend had her tail wrapped around his waist and clung to Joe’s back, holding them in place as the ATV shot over the bumpy dunes. Like Pinstripe, she was unafraid to touch him, something Joe found unexpectedly heartwarming.
