Description
Day 14 of Unamused Ungulates, this time featuring Odobenocetops. This dugong looking relative of narwhals and belugas lived in the shallow coasts of Pliocene Peru and Chile and it was notorious for having two long tusks coming from its mouth, one being much longer than the other. However because the only known male skull is known to have such strange proportions it's not certain wether assymetric tusks like that were the norm for the rest of the males and in fact it's very likely that such dimensions were just from that one individual. Females, like the one potrayed here, on the other hand had all much shorter and evenly sized tusks than males. As for what those tusks were actually for its unclear wether they used them for fighting, feeding, navigation or all three. It was basically a porpoise trying its hardest to be a walrus.Unamused Ungulates belongs to me, myself and I.
