Comic I made to try and explain my final take on Rebellion (which, after analysis, is REALLY GOOD. Just took me a week to figure out.)

Homura’s actions gave rise to the ultimate symbol of hope, thus she would be doomed to face the ultimate amount of despair. In a roundabout way, her wish ultimately came true, and she is finally able to protect Madoka, but at the cost of being the ultimate symbol of grief. She never needed to ‘steal’ any of Madokami’s power—by the process of zero-sum, she essentially became just as powerful.

Her wish coming true meant undoing or suppressing Madoka’s ability to save others, meaning nothing could stop Homura from being overcome with grief and ascending to something that was no longer a magical girl or a witch, but a force equal and opposite to Madokami.
