Description
Updated the image. Blender came with a new "denoising" feature so I could make the image look far smoother and better. I also replaced the monitors. Added more effects and details, made the scene more action alike based on the situation. I also corrected a few things."Be careful what forces you mess with"
In one of the few major fizarian research facilities located on their moons, there was a wormhole project called "Triple Rings".
Ever since the fizarians discovered how they could manipulate gravity somehow with their alcubierre rings (The way they can go FTL) they have tried other experiments.
What you see here is a singularity generator. It has three gravity rings they spin up and rotate to create a controlled gravitational vacuum in the middle. They adjusted it and tried to link it with an identical generator trying to make a working wormhole. They do make it work (They could send radio signals through) but it couldn't safely transfer objects to the fact they are singularities while being wormholes.
But one of the sides got an overload causing the rings to spin up faster causing a stronger singularity to go outside safe parameters. Then they lost control and evacuated everyone that was possible.
The evacuation was hard, since it was one of their facilities located at one their lifeless moons around Meverys. A few fizarian scientists was left trying to stop it, but it was to late...
The whole facility imploded and right after exploded into a major crater. No atmospheric pressure around the facility was there to keep the explosion in place so it easily threw pieces far away. Wrecked a few habitat complexes further away. Luckily they evacuated everyone except the lead team on the project that was left to attempt stopping it. The other wormhole generator was shut down and deconstructed safely for storage. The experiment is going to be moved to a further location were it can do less damage. The cost of this moon science facility were too big for it to be located in another major research complex.
This is a 3D recreation of this 2D scenario drawing I did earlier this year.
Click it to compare. The 3D recreation is of course a bit more serious. Not sure if it came out the way I wanted but I like it so far and already spent days on it.

I like how you managed to convey the atmosphere of critical emergency and impending disaster here! Also, the spacetime distortion near the singularity looks really neat (for that matter, I don't think I can find a single part of this picture that doesn't look neat)
On a side note, wouldn't a singularity like that emit some dangerous amounts of radiation just as a side effect of its existence?

Thanks. I did spend days on this whole thing after all.
There is a lot of security measures... Besides this is an energy based black hole. Not a matter based one. They used the technology used in their alcubierre drives to magnify space time to collapse into a tiny singularity point. Besides other security measures against radiation.

I was mostly concerned about how safe it is to have a window overlooking a singularity like that since, as far as I know, transparent materials usually don't make good radiation shields. Maybe a strong magnetic field can be used to deflect charged particles to some extent?
So what is the difference between matter-based and energy-based black holes? Is it derived from an existing scientific theory, or is it more like an in-universe concept?

Energy-based - It is not created with matter, instead it is created with gravitational fields created by exotic matter with currents injected. Like an alcubierre drive just focusing its power to a center to cause a singularity like magnification there.

That much I understood; I was asking about characteristics (like mass or electric charge) — anything that makes artificial black hole different from a natural one besides its origin.

Electric charge of course...

Well wormholes are like cousins to black holes. They are the same except wormholes let out the light from another universe or place

Yeah pretty much. I tried to make my own version of this effect by adding an edge were light escapes the singularity.

That's the trouble with trying high-energy science. The long-term question of whether or not the risks are worth the rewards has yet to be answered...

Exactly.
A good game with a good story example on this is Half-Life/Black Mesa. They turned the world upside down experimenting with exotic crystals under high energy opening ways for other-dimensional beings to travel to earth freely under a cascade disaster. But that is not the case here. This facility was located safely at a moon and they simply just exploded the facility.

Nice
Now for a neat plot twist where the researchers get pulled into another dimension when it blows!

When this blows there will be nothing left and anything inside it likely got trapped in a new universe as the folded space inside it released from our universe. And that would just be particles as anything complex got ripped apart.

Very cool and exciting, man! I really like it.
Cycles can be quite taxing on a computer's resources. Sometimes I've resorted to using blendergrid or some other renderfarm when I need to get something done in a pinch. But for what this is, it looks amazing.

Thank you! Yes, well having an old MSI 960 4GB doesn't really help the speed... I needed to switch to use my i7 CPU or my monitors would freeze all the time and it allowed me to play at least while it rendered.
Hopefully I will be able to afford a GPU upgrade when I get a job so I can increase render speed.

Maybe I do? Not sure... I've planned comics but not sure if I have the motivation or time for it.

I know how you feel. Comics can become quite a drag... when it involves your OCs and such, it isn't too bad but still rather time consuming.

cool = ) wonder if they would ever accidentally connect to some other wormhole someone ells was making in this possibly infinite universe
