Verena was adopted by a couple who had different beliefs and were told to slow down in the progression of their relationship. She was grateful for any home for the orphanage wasn’t for her eight year old self. Though she did feel bad as she said goodbye to the other kids which always left her wondering how they were faring through life.

She had quite a normal upbringing, or so she thought. There wasn’t any struggles, none that were apparent through the eyes of a ten year old who’s eyes were always focused on pokemon running by her windows and butterflies fluttering by with serenity and grace.

Though at the age of eleven Rena noticed her parents started to become like oil and water, although her grandparents claimed that they’ve always been like this and that Verena’s mind refused to open up to it.

At first it wasn’t bad, they bickered and Verena found it funny actually. But then the fights turned into things shattered and shouting so loud that it could be heard from the walls that protected the dreams and innocence of a little girl who never saw this coming.

Then everything started getting hazy, Rena remembers her mother shouting something about team rocket and her father shouting about how he thought she’d quit, something about that was her promise. She remembers how her mother immediately stopped yelling then there was a tromping of steps and a slam of a door.

Rena remembers that she hated her mother and father fighting.

But she doesn’t remember how she ended up in a small room that was unfamiliar to her and very uncomfortable. She doesn’t want to remember how she called for her mother, how bitter it felt on her tongue to say that “this game isn’t funny anymore!”. She doesn’t want to remember how her she never saw her mother after that fight.
