Description
*Edit: animation and color adjustments. My first 2D animation. Was very much trying to imitate the original show. Yes Noatak has the appearance of a male Korra.
I'm pretty torn whether I liked the finale. I loved Tarrlok and Noatak's(which is a really weird name) little story arc but I'm not completely convinced it 'fit' with the story Legend of Korra was telling.
Also: How 'bout that murder-suicide? 8D

I had 33 separate drawings(really it was 1 finished drawing tweaked into 33 images). Then in photoshop I saved it in gif format. Google '2D animation'. It can probably explain better than I can haha.

Easy is a subjective term; it's like anything it takes practice. If you're familiar with a version of Photoshop then it's a matter learning how to use the animation tools. As for actually drawing each frame; that's for everyone to learn with at their own pace.

okay then how long did it take you to master it?
I see I will have to take a look.
I just look at the designs it might take me a while to master it.

I haven't really mastered animation myself. This one was very simple as it involved very little movement. I just experimented and looked through tutorials. You'd be amazed at how much you can learn from just trying it out.

I suppose there is a similarity. I just remember my immediate reaction to seeing young Noatak was noticing I kept thinking he was Korra.

Hey. :3 Checked back, and the transition of focus looks a lot smoother. Also, I like how it doesn't flash white each time it resets now.
These two still make me all sad inside. Urge to hug...rising.

Haha turns out I was wasting a frame with a white layer
I love sad characters. That and I loved both these guys before the finale. All I'm hearing now is 'Amon you were an asshole but now I see your pretty 40 year old face and abusive child hood and brotherly bonding/ FEELS' type things where the whole time I was like 'Amon You're a badass and now you're even cooler'

I tend to sympathize with sad characters, depending on the character. Unrepentant jerks are never my favorites.
I started out liking Tarrlok even if he was sorta jerkish, because he seemed sort of cool and had a touch of smug going on and it looked like he was trying to help. I liked him a little less after he imprisoned everyone and got that curfew passed, and then I disliked him when he first used bloodbending. Because bloodbending without a full moon has always been my big pet peeve in fanfiction. Since so much of the plot ended up using that, though, and since it seemed like a couple of people could at least weaken the hold, I'll let that go.
I like him pretty well now. He was still in it for himself most of the time, but... I like how he was repentant at the end. Not the suicidal/homicidal part. But it made sense with how horrified he looked after knocking everyone out before too- at first, I thought he was just aghast at being discovered. Anyway, not such a bad guy/character.
Amon always had a sympathetic cause, even if he was too extreme about it. Totally called him not being burned. I started out not wanting to like him, but he was all mysterious and fighting an understandable cause... Then he broke my pet peeve when he walked through Tarrlok's bloodbending, and I fangirled for a second.
By the time the bloodbending got thrown around in the finale, I forgot to care. XP Their backstory makes me appreciate them more because I like antagonists that aren't strictly evil, have some moral compass (notice how they could have killed but didn't), and have reasons behind their actions.
... And also they were so adorable as children.
*cough* Sorry for long post. XP I think I'm somewhere between the people you're seeing everywhere and the way you liked them a lot all along. Meanwhile, still holding onto the faint, faint hope that maybe one of them lived and will return for redemption. Because they'd make awesome temporary allies or something.

It was really cool to go back and know why he had that reaction when he blood bent them all.
Actually at this point I'm convinced that Amon killed the Lieutenant. Something about his words 'You served me well Lieutenant' and how he just went silent. It didn't seem like he just passed out. But then I don't know why he'd let Mako and Korra live if they knew his true identity. That and why didn't he just knock Korra and Mako out if he could? Haha I'm probably reading too much into it.
I'm just into dark stuff so Tarrlok blowing the boat was the best. I was just surprised Nickelodeon allowed it/Bryke would do that.

dragoeniex In reply to Zekfir [2012-06-27 05:45:17 +0000 UTC]
It was.
And it didn't matter if Mako and Korra lived to say that he really was a bender. They'd already been "proven" to be liars in front of that huge audience, and of course they'd want to turn the crowd on Amon. The supporters wouldn't by their "lies" after that.
I'm fairly certain the Lieutenant lives. Amon could have killed him with bloodbending, and he wouldn't have needed to discard the body so violently afterward. It's probably pretty hard to talk while being bloodbent. Korra had difficulties when Tarrlok pulled it on her.
I think Amon gave his Lieutenant the Avatar Universe equivalent of temporary unconsciousness and a really bad headache for later. People are part rubber in this show. In theory, he /should/ have killed the guy if he wanted to continue on as Amon without worrying about a credible voice saying he was a bender, but I don't think he did. Maybe he was planning to work that out later. Whatever the case, I don't think that's how Amon works. For all his serious campaigning, taking away bending and bruising people up (ignoring the United Forces) is about as bad as he gets.
Yeah? It did make for a dramatic and poignant end for the brothers' story... But I love redeemed characters like no other. Or semi-redeemed. And hey- even if one of them did pop up later, it would be unlikely that both survived. And the dark intent would always be there.
I'm surprised Nick showed it too. Bryke, not really. We got elements of genocide in the first series, and they touched on family murder by hinting that not only did Ursa do something with Azulon, but that Ozai was at least considering killing Zuko like his father demanded. Suicide is sort of another step, though...
And it was sad. In their own way, it seemed like the brothers still cared about each other. Always thought it was weird that Amon carried Tarrlok to the truck instead of leaving that to a lackey.

Amon confuses me with his 'cold and detached' nature(How he throws aside the Lieutenant who he probably worked with for a long time) but still cares about Tarrlok(Who he left behind more than 20 years ago, calling him a weakling, taking his bending, then locking him up)
So this makes it hard for me to accurately theorize or analyze him.

I loved the finale and I cried, but I do agree with your point. It made sense that Noatak/Amon wanted people to be treated equally after being subjected to his fathers abusive control, but it was a very contrary story arc to the whole of Amons plan...
However I can also see how Noatak thought the only way for equality was through the elimination of bending, since his father lost his power after his bending was taken...
I'm a little torn too, I also think the finale was very fast paced... Hmm.

Zekfir In reply to double--take [2012-06-24 23:18:50 +0000 UTC]
I'm also seeing Noatak as a power seeker. With his whole dialogue before running away, 'You say blood bending is the most powerful thing; but it's not. The avatar is, he took your bending away, what could be more powerful than that?' calling people weak. It doesn't seem to fit Amon's ideals. Then again there's like 30 years between then and becoming Amon.
It was fast paced but I think that's because at the time they weren't sure they were approved for a second season so it had to wrap up nicely.Still some unexplained things but these might be explored in season 2.

Hmm yes that's true. Although it was a paradox to Amons ideals I do think it was a suprising and clever storyline. A shame they were killed off but the ending for them was tragically suiting I think.

The camera's just switching focus from Noatak to Tarrlok. And I, too, was feeling a bit down at the death scene. Still, they had it coming, and the city would be better off without both of them causing problems...
