It would be a Naginata. A halberd has an ax blade on the side and a spear tip. A naginata, however, has a full blade running across the end of the staff.

It's a guan dao. And contrary to popular belief, the European is NOT a halberd. The european equivalent would be a glaive. The glaive, guan dao, and nagintina all have the same basic design, but the length and thickness of the blade is different for each.

I would either call this a glaive or a naginata, very similar weapons from Europe and Japan, respectively. The tassel and designs give the weapon an Asian feel, but the spike on the end is a typical European addition, so it could go either way.
As far as the art goes, this is very impressive. I like the details and designs on the weapon. Nice job.

its a polearm, yes, but concidering the design youve decided to give it id define it as a guan dao, which is the chineese equivilant of the european glaive and japanese naginata. a glaive wouldnt be decorated like that and a naginata would have a much thinner blade. the tassel is altso common in chinese pole weapons to serve as a distraction for the enemy.
PS: love it, i want one... NAOW!

Due to the point location, the curvature of the blade, and the fact that its one sided, it would be classified as a pole arm i believe.

Hi I really like your weapon design and I would like to have your permission to model it in 3D. It`s not in a lucrative goal or contest or anything like that.
It`s for a school project where we have to model a weapon of our choice and the design doesn`t need to be ours. So all credits will go to you and I wont claim it as my own. But since its yours I just want to make sure
Thanks
Emilie
PS: sorry for any grammatical malformation in my sentences my english isn`t really good.

with that type of blade, it is a decorative glaive. and i mean an actual glaive, not the stupid World of Warcraft 'glaives' that look like huge throwing stars. those arn't glaives. this is a glaive. my DnD character uses one.

Amazing! And a really cool coloring job.
Just to go against the grain, I'll say Guan Dao. Naginatas are katanas with extended handles.

Well this answers the oldest question of all time:
can a weapon also be artwork?
sure as heck looks that way...

That is NOT a Naginata. That, is a Quandao. A chinese pole arm named for General G(K)wan Yu. Has no one on Dev-art played Dynasty Warriors?

Brilliant weapon. Very fanciful, yet I can definitely see this as a functional weapon as well, unlike many pics I've seen. Also, just my opinion, I side with the Glaive guy above.

A halberd has an axe blade and a spike on the back meant to be used against people on horseback. this is not a halberd. It is an Asian styled polearm, one of the ones mentioned already.

It's actually a "bisen-to" an ancient Chinese weapon used by imperial guards, which eventually traveled to Japan, where they thinned out the blade and called it a "naginata."

it is a chinese weapon, no naginata, though it was roughly based around it. it is called Kwan dao.

I like this weapon. By the way, it's called the Guan Dao, a long range blade which is extremely heavy.
