wow that was the longest conversation i've ever seen on wat type of weapon something is, i like it! i thought i was alone in this world, loving my weapons as if they were my children. but i'm not, yay. nice pic, i like the simple designs on the side to, its useful wen trying to understand how the weapon came about. its cool how you shaded the pole from yellow to purple, its much beta than having just one colour. thanks for the inspiration!

Your all wrong
This weapon is a Glaive
The weapon isn't a Naginata because that weapon is a polearm version of a katana having a small thin blade at the end designed much like a katana.
It's not a halberd because that is the longer ranged axe.
Similar to a Dao so that might work to
It is either a Dao in Chinese design or a Glaive in European

actually...pike would be correct...im thinking. Though, the best thing is just to call it a polearm.

Also, I forgot to put this on the last one, but a naginata looks like a katana on a shaft, not like that. A Halberd is a type of pike with an axe blade on the side of it. But yeah, very nice weapon nevertheless.

That is obviously a Kwan Dao as Chiwai said. It is a heavy spear that was made first by Guan Yu, hence the name Guan Dao, or Kwan dao. Used only by strong men in China, it usually weighs over 50lbs.

Guy. And it can be Kwan Dao or Guan Dao, either works. And it was invented in China by Guan Yu, as I said in my last reply.

a nagintata and a halberd are almost the same the one that looks more like a spear is the naginata and the curved blade is classified as a halberd

Sorry, but the term "naginata" here would be wrong.
In english this class of weapon would indeed be called a hallbred. This type of hallbred, however, appears to be a Chinese dao, not a Japanese naginata.

The Blade is a little small but Aranu-sama is quite correct.
Naginata's usually look like a japanese sword(sometimes more curvy on the tips) on a stick, while Halbreds usually look like a small Fancy Axe(sometimes with a speartip head) on a stick. This is definately looks like a Guan Dao. A Chinese Blade on a stick.
(Look at Dynasty Warriors, Character Guan Yu, with a Guan Dao )

All above who said naginata are on the money, though halberd works of course if it's European made
This is absolutely the sexiest weapon I have ever seen (sexy here meaning a mix of cool and pretty because I imagine intercourse with this tool would really wear somebody out...). But a year and a half old and still no name for this beauty?
The background is a fitting neutral to the astounding colors of the tool, and one must appreciate the fine sketch details. Though composition-wise, there seems to be a lot of unnecessary negative space, hich accounts for it being in scraps... omg this is in scraps?! I'm gonna have to see your gallery then o.o

Naginatas have longer blades, usually. This is a guan dao, effectively a halberd.

It's not a halberd. A halberd is a spear with an axe head. The closest european equivalent to this weapon would be a glaive.

I believe this would be classified as a Halberd... anyway... Love this sketch. You've done a great job. Nice contrast with the colours too!
