Description
Richard Armitage as John Thornton from BBC's "North & South." Painted freehand. An oil painting on 6x8 (approximately 15.2 x 20.3 cm) on RayMar Art board. Some double-checking and fixing up in Photoshop. Here's the WIP if you are interested:Have you ever worked on a drawing or painting for so long that you can bear it no longer? I think I'm at that stage with this painting. I did some digital fixing-up (maybe 5% changes from the original oil) because I couldn't take it any more. This painting has been a work in progress for months. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!
More info about this painting (plus a sneak-peek at my John Porter "bondage" painting-in-progress) is at my blog: [link]
EDIT 10-16-11: I submitted this as a print, because I have no idea when I'll go back to the original painting and "finish" it. In the meantime, there is a print available for anyone who is interested. I didn't make it any larger than 9x12 because the original is 6x8 and 9x12 is as large as I think it can reasonably go without looking too funky.

It looks complete to me. It really does look like a classic painting of the era.

Ah, it looks finished enough in my opinion! Don't stress out about it. Sometimes we just can't bare to finish something.
I love the brush strokes and the multiple flesh tones in there. Looks good. You've also captured his expression quite well!

You know what! ill do the same thing, and when it happens i usually leave the painting and continue with other pieces, but i always end up coming back, because as your tendency to finish a drawing builds so does finishing it, so ill go weeks knowing i have a piece i left unfinished, but after so long i keep thinking about the unfinished one and always come back to it, just remember, EVerything in moderation, unless your obsessed, and obsession is just a from of passion, just dont let it take over your life!!!! Great work, i know oil, as soon as i have a good enough camera ill put my oil work up!!!!

Well, thanks! I know I'll eventually finish it! I do have a lot of other paintings in the works, so it won't hurt to focus on them for a while!

It looks awesome ! But if you've got to that stage with being fed up with it maybe you should take a break from it ?
Unless you can see the goal ahead of you and you can't bear to leave it unfinished XD I don't know what you're like
It's fantastic either way, your ability inspires me

Thank you so much, kawaikit! Yes, I'm definitely at the stage where I can't bear to look at it anymore! I hope that in a while I'll be able to finish it, but it might be a looooooong while, based on how I feel right now!
