Joscelin Verreuil of the Kushiel Legacy Series by Jacqueline Carey.You knew I would get to him eventually, right? This is actually one of two paintings I had in progress of Joscelin; finally got this one to a point I felt I could call it finished. I have been left a bit...unsatisfied with most Joscelin fanart, with a few gorgeous exceptions. I tried to render him as perfectly as I could, given what I saw in my head. Therefor, I leaned a bit more towards realism than I did with Phedre or Melisande's portraits.
I invented a wardrobe piece of his that was not in the books; the small pendant he's wearing has been nicknamed Cassiel's Promise, something the Cassiline Brotherhood gives out to their Priests upon their leaving the monastery.

Oh! and you should try to make a matching Phedre... That would be PERFECT!!! The same amount of naturalism and details, complete with the scrolling in the corners and faint text across the image.... I can very much see those two images, poster sized, framed and hanging on my living room wall... *wistful sigh*

This is HANDS DOWN the BEST rendition of Joscelin anywhere. And I've been searching... Everyone always gives him scruff or makes his hair short and brown... But you followed Carey's description of him PERFECTLY!! From the engraved vambraces, to the long gold hair, to the "face of an angel"... Magnificent! I can't even describe how much I love this piece... Would you be willing to possibly have it become available as a Print? I would love a print of this...

He's a little bit prettier than I pictured him in my head, but that's probably a personal preference for manly men. Love all the little details, from the sword holster to the gloves. Possibly the best Joscelin I've ever seen (and Jacqueline Carey seems to be impressed with it as well, in case you didn't know...she posted it on her facebook, which is how I found it here!)

I saw the thumbnail for this before seeing the title & group, & I just knew it was Joscelin. I just knew it! XD This is such a beautiful rendition of him! It catches his beauty and that first glimse we ever got of him through Phedre's eyes of a being just a little beyond reach emotionally.

I did indeed enjoy it. Not sure to what extent it's me knowing the character, but... I'd say this is prior to the events of Kushiel's Chosen, because to my mind's eye, you've caught him as "an arrogant prig of a Cassiline" perfectly.
