Quite good, I love the style, very dramatic start.
As for the textures, I think if the white sky bits were left un-textured it might help, making the rest of it pop out more.

I adore the way this turned out.
As for too much texture: this page looks superb, but I would surely not advise that you use it continuously, because then it would be too much to look at.
I like this one because the blue and white makes it seem rather oriental, though I know the actual origin of the story isn't Eastern, I like this feel to it. It makes it original.
The line art is neat and the flow looks good even if it's just now two panels. Good job Daddy V
