There's a photo of this same hallway where someone took a photo and a mysterious figure showed up in the developed photo. I'll upload it now.

You're thinking of the Himuro Master. Uggh, who DIDN'T hate fighting him. That small walk way plus the fact he kept moving made that fight just suck.

Yeah and he would'nt freakin stop moving.lol.
I remember fighting him and other ghosts in there and being like "ahhhh, freakin stay still" they did a VERY good job with the graphics in that game. too good at times.lol.
I doubt i could spend ANY nights there without being like OMG! that's where this happened.lol

i remember checking this out, for the game they snapped some real life places from this manson, not sure if there was a ghost rumour on it, it was a while back.
meep, i remember playing this part in ff3 as well, when miku first run through those doors, as i made her run back i only released after a few seconds the doors weren't in a straight line and just then that ghost came charging at me, ep T-T god that was a frightening part of the game, i wish i hasn't been running (cries)

Just to clarify there probably are a lot of places named Himuro mansion, and a ritual similar to Fatal Frame's did exist... thank goodness they don't any more.

The mansion doesn't exist this picture was placed up on a website claiming falsely that they had been taken at the actual mansion when actually they are simply pictures taken from mansions that the game designers used to create the appearance of the mansion in the game. the actual mansion does not exist.

yeah, I was bummed too when I found out. The pictures came out and the person who wrote the article saying that it was from the actual mansion was confused when they wrote itso now there's all this misunderstanding going on.
but yeah the pictures are from several different existing mansions in japan that were used as refferance guides.

yeah, cause it was used as a refferance for designing that room in the game hehe, it's fun to make fanart with though cause of it, like photomanipulating it and stuffs ^.^

Where did you find out it was fake?
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
Donaruie In reply to RobertCHEEKS [2006-09-28 18:00:42 +0000 UTC]
it's not a fake picture, it was a picture of a room used to deisgn the look of the game. However the pictures were original posted as "pictures of the various mansions used to design the layout of Himuro Mansion" so it's not a picture of Himuro Mansion, just some ancient japanese mansion they used as a design aid.
Most people get confused because since they were first posted they were used on another site saying they were from the real mansion, which isn't true.
believe me I wish it were real that would be cool but i've done my own research.

No I know it's not a fake picture
But all of this could be possible that's why i'm not 100% sure that some of it is real or fake
But I do believe you on this and wish it was real but I guess if you ever came across it then you would have to believe it, I guess it's a 'i'll believe it when I see it' kind of thing

yeah, unless I actually find the mansion or see a video tape of someone in it I won't be able to believe it's ture since there are so many liars out there just our for the attention.
Tecmo has already said that there is no Himuro Mansion like the one in the game. They were inspired by ghost stories told of an existing mansion but it's not even close to what's in the game. The layout of the mansion in the game is a mixture of different mansions existing in Japan.

Yeah same
It's a shame really they shouldn't of told anyone coz it makes the game a bit more thrilling when you think it was a true story
What part of it is true then? coz on the case they put based on a true story

Donaruie In reply to RobertCHEEKS [2006-09-29 03:17:22 +0000 UTC]
only the American version of the game has that on it's cover. They felt it would catch more peoples attention so more people would buy it.
The Japanese version never claims to be based on a true story at all.
It's based on popular japanese ghost stories and folk lore. None of it is proven true at all.
Most things in America that claim to be based on true stories are very loosley based. It's an advertising technique.

Oh ok, I bought the american version and not the english version but the same stuff still happens so it doesn't really matter
They shouldn't really put that on the cover coz it's kinda like false advertising, I still would of bought it anyway

I also read that the Himuro mansion is in the outskirts of Tokyo and I read the true story on the internet, I don't know what to believe

alot of "true stories" are either misinformed peopl or lies. The game is based on alot of Japanese folk lore but none of these have actualy evidence that they are real stories.
also if there is a mansion it's more then likely not called Himuro. The surname Himuro is the Japanese equivalent of the english last name Smith. It's everywhere.

Yeah true but it said they did used to do riturals like in the game which happened centuries ago and they were allowed to get away with it centuries ago
I believe that parts of the game are true

Donaruie In reply to RobertCHEEKS [2006-09-28 23:03:37 +0000 UTC]
yeah that's the folk lore part. It is based on real japanese folk lore. Unfortunately how muhc of it really happened and how much has been extragerated over the years is hard to tell like any legend.
That's what I meant.
All of the games are based off of existing folk lore, Tecmo has already said so.
