They could've just modified some Hornby OO scale models for the series.
They'd be correct scale.

The original show was going to be in OO scale, they managed to make one very cringey episode of hands rerailing models.

And it was in 1959 so the predominant model company was Triang, and their most advanced model was the Princess Coronation.
