"My dearest Lyria,
Please take this magnifying glass, the mirror, and the chocolate (I know how you love that brand, they have that rice paper wrapping...) as a token that I am yet alive. I have not been killed, but I must tell you that you should not consider me alive. I have no way of returning. Farewell, my child.
Please do NOT use the magnifying glass at any cost. Especially take care that you do not look into a mirror with it. I have said too much, but let me just say that this device has something to do with why I am damned away from you, my loving family. You are after all my only child left, and without your mother we are few, but still a family. I knew that you would be hurt more than anything with news of my going missing. But please know that I am alive and you are not alone. I admonish you to not attempt to find me, as I am not in any place that can be reached. I only wished to let you know that you are not yet an orphaned woman.

That is what the note said, wrapped around a tiny canister and tied with a bow. It somehow appeared in the mirror, in the downstairs servant quarters. Some of the other servants say that it is where a young woman used to have her room, but it has been decades since that family lived here. Indeed, says the washer woman who works with you day in and day out (Elanda) the family was pronounced dead. Not only the father, but the daughter too, also went missing. Thus the house going for auction. A rich plantation owner bought the place, bringing his army of shall we say, house servants? He is a distant and kind man, despite the disreputable opinion many like him come to deserve.
But that canister indeed has the mirror in it, and a magnifying glass.

To be fair, I've never BEEN a girl before. It definitely feels odd, but it's not bad. At least I know that I can change myself back any time I want. Now, shall we head outta here?

The crystal ball expanded like any other object would, only the world it led to was the larger world, strangely. Soon you were standing in the room in the mansion, in front of the mirror. "wow this is weird...it looks...dusty" she looked around, "I wonder how long I've been gone?" she looked at you in shock, noticing you weren't totally shocked and blushed, looking at the floor. "it's dirty"

"really, I am" she said nodding. "but...it's been a long time" she was catching a sob in her throat. She looked around. "let's...maybe we can go back and find my dad and things will be okay..." she glanced out the window and her eyes welled up with tears. "it's like I'm a dead woman" she said with finality.

*I pat her on the back, trying to comfort her* Don't worry, it'll be alright. You're still alive, and that's all that matters. Furthermore, I don't think it'd be wise to search for him. You could get lost again. How long were you in there, anyways?

She didn't respond to that, but stepped back to the mirror, feeling along the edge. "I was in there since there were slaves working here. I'm guessing they all grew up?" she looked at you as if you would know. and then she shrugged. "I need to get back in. as you can see time seems to flow differently in there than it does in the real world..." she didn't seem to agree with the definitions she just laid out, and scowled. She glanced at you. "if I can find him, I can at least be with my family. here I'm long dead. It's been over 150 years!" she took the glass in her hand. "you can come with me if you like, but if you do, just know that time is wonky in there. If I find a way to fix that, I'll come back for you if you like" she said with firmness in her voice, a little hoarse.

... *I look at her with concern* I get that you want to find your father, but if you do, you have no idea how long you'll be in there. It's dangerous... please don't go. *I put my hand on her shoulder* I know losing family is hard. I've been though that kind of loss myself... but you have to start living in the moment. Don't keep dwelling on your past.

She looks at you and shakes her head. "I have nothing left to live for if my whole family is gone. and my father might still be alive!" she had tears in her eyes but didn't sob.

She spat. "you're...you're absolutely correct...but if he's still alive and still in there..." she turned and looked at you for a split second, but seemed to think better of it and held her gaze out the window. "I was making progress. I found the crystal balls, I found how to use the magnifying glass. there are other things too, like pots, and containers generally" she began to babble on. "the thing is this IS my life now...searching. If I just gave up now I'd...I'd feel like he died" she looked at you again.

*I sigh* Alright. I guess I can let you go. Just be careful and come back alright. *I hand her the magnifying glass* Um... is there another magnifying glass? If you take that one, then I don't really have any way of changing myself back to being male... Not that I want to right away... *I blush a bit, obviously liking my new change in gender*

"I haven;t found another yet" she said simply. "if you want I can change you back right now. But you won't fit into any of my old dresses...they might still be in the attic" she smiled. "you really look good as either boy or girl by the way." she wiped a tear, feeling determined.

*I start to think about it. Since she'd be leaving with the last magnifying glass, I'd have to make a choice and couldn't change that choice for a while* Hmm... y'know, I think I'll stick with how I am. I can learn to live like this.

She took the paper and was entering the sphere created by the crystal ball. "what's a phone?" and she disappeared.

*After that, I decided to continue living my life. Strangely enough, my change had altered the minds of everyone who knew me as well, thinking that I had always been a girl. This was an obvious relief to me, considering it would've been awkward trying to explain what had happened to me. A few weeks passed...*

A few weeks later there was a wrinkle in the air in the middle of the room. Soon an arm emerged and then a head. Lyria looked around to see if anything had changed here. She stepped out, dusting herself off and removing a glass globe from around her head, putting it under her arm.

"this is very odd" she looked up at 'her' . "are you enjoying being a girl? none of those nasty erections" she laughed in a high-pitched nervous laugh.

"it helps you go in other directions besides up and down." she shrugged. "It seems to all you to go up from two or more objects, rather than straight up. I think it can be used to go down too, but I'm not sure how yet." she seemed to be keeping a good distance from it. "but about you...have you missed your...um...your penis?"
