Description
An offshoot of a request made by the main primary prompts of this request, to put it simply, were Van Kleiss, Full-length-mirror, and haircut. So I decided to do an 'aftermath' scene based off of 's Fusion Fall story: Gat.Basically the cause of this particular scene can be summed up to VK attempting to attack Spidermonkey, aka Ben10, from behind and getting a great big glop of webbing stuck to his shoulder and, much to his agitation, his hair.
I hope this works for you ShugoJess, even if it's not exactly the way you originally wanted it. I had a really fun time with it.
Edited Jan. 01, 2013: Darkened in his pants to a more accurate shade. Not quite so blinding now.

That's for sure, fortunately they're respective 'niches' in the FF universe means they'll cross paths only on rare occasions. Probably spanning over years rather than weeks/months. Still...when they do, it'll be an over sized mess, just like in Gat. Hm...makes you wonder which is worse: Rex regularly running into VK and the Pack but things being sorted out alright and fairly quickly; Or Ben and especially Dexter (who hadn't seen VK in years and then wham!!) and a complex slip-and-die-painfully or worse.

It's probably less painful to get VK in a lot of of small doses versus one big one.

Zephyrus-Genesis In reply to Thunder-Fish [2013-01-01 17:35:08 +0000 UTC]
Most likely, kind of like getting an immunity to snake venom, yes? Also, one big one implies that he spent a lot of time preparing specifically for the person getting "one big dose". Which implies that, unlike with Rex's little encounters, it's going to hit hard and fast and be like trying to yank free of a spider's web. Extremely difficult. Not impossible, just almost.
Fortunately our heroes have the "luck of the devil" when it comes to getting out of such situations. Other people wouldn't be so lucky.

But then...it doesn't really look like the Van Kleiss we've all come to know. So I suppose the effect is rather mixed.

I just took a look at your Van Kleiss redesign and I must say: It is creepy as hell, yet extremely fitting. I really like what you did with the gauntlet. Most realistic take on it yet, I think.
((About his brown coat...maybe he owned it before the nanite event? And he just wore a lab coat while working on the project? Evidently there must be a supply somewhere because he got an exact double (tattered edges and all) before he made it back to the 'Present'))
Also, I think maybe we have a difference in how we perceive colors, and the lighting atmosphere we usually see VK in. I think his coat is brown but shines reddish in certain light and that his pants are tan, and thus look lavender/purple in places like Abyssus or otherwise dark and/or underground I think he has a light aversion, we rarely see him in the day time...
And I should probably shut up now, sorry for rambling.

Haha thanks!
Well I base my colors off of the characters design pictures. Kleiss's are based on these [link] [link] [link] [link]
because picture like those are supposed to not have a determined light ambiance to them because they are used as reference or basic profileing, so he really does have purple pants and a (burgundy?) jacket. But who knows.
lol it's perfectly fine to ramble I love having conversations like this XD

^_^
Hm...I use those same pictures as references but I see different colors. Warm brown for the jacket (which I color in with sharpies and thus don't have a name for that particular color. I'll have to check at the office supply store next time I go in.)and a darker warm grey for his pants. I also looked up tan military cargo pants online and saw a couple that certainly seemed similar in shade as VK's.
Of course, that we rarely see Van Kleiss in good light ((literally, have you noticed how dark the atmosphere is whenever he's on screen? Sans a few exceptions)) doesn't help us identify the colors he wears.
Yay! I've had people scold me when I go on a ramble of thought-to-screen without real self censoring. Nice to know you enjoy that kind of thing.
Oh, out of curiosity, where did you hear that VK's name meant Of the Earth? I already knew, I'm just curious to kknow how you learned it.

DesertDraggon In reply to Zephyrus-Genesis [2013-01-03 00:15:44 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I guess it just depends who's looking at it. XD
That's true, mostly because of his darker personality and in Abyssus it's always cloudy I've noticed, I think the debris from The Even hasn't cleared away yet. Clouds from those kind of events take years to dissipate, which could also mean it's rather cold and snows a lot in Abyssus. -shrug-
lol it's ok
I forgot where exactly I heard it, but I think I looked it up on google or tried to translate it at some point.

Zephyrus-Genesis In reply to DesertDraggon [2013-01-03 00:30:23 +0000 UTC]
Always cloudy and casting a reddish tint to everything. And cold and snow would be a reasonable explanation for the coat in the first place. From experience I can say that long coats are very warm, especially if made from leather and not some kind of plant or synthetic fibers.
((Which brings to question: what kind of material do you think that coat is made of? Not including when VK was one with Abyssus, I'm talking about prior the event and after Rex cured him. Some kind of suede leather maybe? Cause suede doesn't shine.))
Ah, I did the same thing, then posted my findings on his profile on Wiki. ((Then someone went and re-worded it on me >_<)) Caused me some trouble initially because I thought 'Van Kleiss' was German, turned out it was actually Dutch.
Speaking of languages, what nationality do you think VK is? Mainly, where does his accent come from? Elecktrum/Lightning Bird thinks it's a British accent and I thought maybe it's a Dutch accent, cause of his name, but I can't find enough samples of Dutch accents.

DesertDraggon In reply to Zephyrus-Genesis [2013-01-03 00:40:15 +0000 UTC]
I think it may be wool. I have a German wool coat similar to Kleiss's it has the shoulder and arm straps and everything (but it's steel blue). It's extremely warm and not too heavy so it does have a little flow to it.
Haha cool. I think since his accent is very light, and the way he pronounces things, he could be dutch, but lived in america or england for a long time. Because I take German (which is similar to Dutch) and I notice sometimes he'll pronounce things weirdly (though I guess talking about the voice actor, but who knows, it could be in his script to pronounce things that way)

Zephyrus-Genesis In reply to DesertDraggon [2013-01-03 01:24:06 +0000 UTC]
Neato, I may try and get one someday. I'm fascinated by long coats. Do you think you could post a picture of your coat?
You can probably hear the subtle differences between similar languages better than I can. If the accent is obvious I may be able to identify it, otherwise it'll pretty much be 'I like how he talks' and that's it. What kind of odd pronouncations does he make that you've caught?
Troy Baker is pretty gifted with doing different voices and tones. I've heard three different characters he voices and if not for the fact that his name is in the credits I wouldn't realize it was the same guy. So it's probably in his script to speak that way.
Also, I had a thought earlier: would you mind if I tried drawing your VK redesign in my own style? Not sure if I'll actually do it, but it would be an interesting project and I like playing with my sharpies.

Yeah, I just listen to a lot of foreign people so it catches on. I can't really name off most of it off the top of my head but he does use the lower regions of his throat more.

Cool! Let me know if you decide to do so.
...And I wish I understood more of how people speak (involving their throats, vocal chords, and the different syllables). Do you mean the area of the throat where people make deeper, rumbling sounds? ((Where can I go to learn more about that type of thing?))
It's amazing what one can do with their voice, some voice actors are especially gifted for a variety of tones and others are good at a specific type of character *coughTimCurrycough*
Which characters of his have you seen? ...And does that sentence make sense? It looks a little wonky...
Neat! Maybe that'll be my next project. I have a few detail questions: How long is his hair? How far down his back? Does he let it hang in his face usually or does he prefer to have it brushed back? Do you know of any other references I can look up for ideas of how to handle his gauntlet arm and the blended-with-organic-limbs look? I know there's a phrase for it, but it's slipping my mind right now >_<

Haha I don't know where I learn this stuff I just have, I'm one of those kinds of people that really observe others. It creeps people out because I stare a lot.
Yes, yes it is, even normal actors such as Misha Collins who plays Castiel in Supernatural, he normally has a high smooth happy voice, but as Castiel it's gruff and low, he can also go to a super kawaii desu high pitch voice as well.
Haha, his hair goes down to the ends of his shoulder blades and it really depends on how the mood is. His bio-mechanic arm can just be referenced by human muscle groupings, that's what I shaped it from.

Zephyrus-Genesis In reply to DesertDraggon [2013-01-03 04:20:23 +0000 UTC]
You mean something akin to that thousand-yard-stare or the you're-a-specimen-under-my-scope kind of look? I've creeped my sister out a bit when my imagination takes me to la-la-land and I have an unblinking, completely expressionless look on my face.
It's amazing how people can change their voices like that. I certainly can not. My voice is pretty much stuck on a narrow spectrum.
Just below his shoulder blades, got it. Hm...I have a few references for that, be interesting to see what I get from it. Hopefully it will do your unique design justice.

"Not that good at it yet" implies much better results than "I can't quite pull it off" or something similar. Plus, none of us can hope to attain Sherlock's level of epicness. Doesn't mean we can't pick up enough to unnerve the heck out of other people ^^
Do let me know if you manage to pull it off at some point.

Haven't managed to plant myself long enough to read it I'm afraid. The concept leaves me twitchy and fidgety and basically unable to read farther than the title. Most likely I'm imagining what-it-could-be very differently from how it's written but I'm still having trouble actually reading it. I'll probably read it eventually, I just need to wait to warm up to the idea a bit.
