I just wanted to repost MaxRide91 's comment from the last page, because they REALLY did a great job of summing up what has been revealed about the Forgotten so far. They said:

-Is/Are originally made by Zeragii (not a canon character like Chara or Gaster)
-Have been around for ages
-Have been forgotten
-Need Frisk alive (could only do so after RESET power was destroyed, most likely because otherwise it would all fix itself)

Yes, Yes, and YES!
- Yes, the Forgotten is an original character. One that I thought might have existed if the events of Undertale's past had really happened.
- Yes, they have been around for ages. As long as the monsters have been under ground.
- Yes, have been forgotten. Completely. Even by Frisk.
- Yes, exactly! They need Frisk alive, but couldn't carry out their plans until she refused/destroyed the reset button, otherwise she could just have undone everything they accomplished.
- Yes, Sans has thwarted their plans before, but he doesn't remember. No one does. Not even Frisk.
