Description
It has been a LONG time since I attempted a digital painting. The last one I tried looked like this:Awful. Dreadful. Don't even try to tell me it isn't that bad, because it IS. But with this new one, well, I've been practicing, and I feel it's definitely better than that other one. Maybe. Getting there. ^^ It is encouraging me to continue doing these, and explore backgrounds that are more painterly. We shall see!

Dang. This one feels so somber. But FREAKIN WELL DONE. Oh my gosh it feels like a real winter photo. The whited out/muted colors. Sans' back. Love it.

*Jealous of how people can do the blurry and snowy scenes* XD
This looks seriously amazing~ The distance of trees and perspective is amazingly executed! Even the trail of him walking blurred off is nice~! And even got some grasses as the place wouldn't really be desolate is a good touch of detail! Yet you don't have too much detail so the drawings really brings out feels of either loneliness or just being cold! Amazing job!

Your older painting looks better than some of my first attempts at digital art.
You did a really good job creating the snow effect in this picture. I especially like the added detail of snow accumulating on Sans. Additionally, you did a good job creating depth in this picture, both with the placement of the trees and making some of the snowflakes sharper and others softer. The slight fog also adds to this effect really nicely.

The older picture just needs some adjustment in perspective and a little bit softer shading, both of which you've clearly gotten the hang of.

What is he holding though?

Yes, there's been definite improvement (though if I knew where you were I would DEFINITELY poke you and insist the first wasn't that bad) and I really like the emotional impact on this piece.
SANS! Please tell me you're at least wearing your sneakers instead of your slippers! I fear I see a hint of pink. BRRR!

Not gonna lie, I wouldn't mind seeing a speedpaint of how you did this or anything. Backgrounds are something that I personally struggle with, lol.
That said, it looks really neat! The composition is great and the stark whiteness of the blizzard really pulls the piece together as a unified whole. I love the little details--the snow on Sans' body, the footsteps in the snow, the grass peeking up from the ground...
Even the trees and the way that they lean is done really well, and the haziness as the horizon line extends adds to the depth of the piece. I wonder where Sans is going.
For someone who hasn't picked up digital painting in a while, it's really quite amazing what you managed to do. It's definetly a lot better than the digital painting you have in your description, and I think that's from a better overall understanding of how colors and composition work that comes naturally from doing backgrounds as often as you do. It'd probably be interesting to see a repaint of the first digital painting you did.

Well, I can say from a professional perspective (degree in art and science) that this piece is very well done Zeragii ^^Β The motion blur of the snow, the frost clinging to the trees and their branches, even the small details like the grass lingering in the front and bare shrubs hidden in the frosty air.Β I have worked in digital for more than ten years and I can tell you that for picking up the style again after not working with it after a long time or very much at all, this is amazingly done.Β And don't think I forgot about the detail of the fresh powder snow clinging to Sans either.Β You also took note that in a blizzard, there is no shadows as there is no sun that can shine through properly (seen this once before for real, also live in California so not very common.Β Don't know how people can live in a place that has white out blizzards, you guys are hardy as heck lol XD).Β Β
At any rate, don't be so hard on yourself Zeragii Β With all things; art takes practice, passion, and determination.Β And you my friend have all three and so much more.Β ^^
Keep on creating and while us artists tend to be our worst critics (myself included), remember to reflect and take a step back and look at the bigger picture.Β Not the small imperfections, but the piece as a whole.Β Even the greatest artists in history have had works with mistakes in anatomy, unfinished pieces, and were not even recognized for their works while they were alive.Β But fame wasn't the main reason why many artists back then created art.Β The main reason is that they simply loved doing it.Β It is a language, an expression that speaks to people in many different ways.Β
So even though the media is different, it still carries the same weight.Β Don't criticize yourself for your past or your present works, because those works were how you came this far.Β ^^
I hope this helps with a little wisdom from a fellow artist ^^Β
Never stop doing what you love Zeragii ^^

I mean, I'm no expert in digital painting, either. I'm way too impatient for it, haha. But in this particular instance, maybe having harder edges on the top and bottom of each footprint would help. And if you want, maybe try adding a little bump of snow on the left and right of each one to show that the snow has been shifted over a bit. It's kinda hard to explain, but I hope that helps.
