TV Tropes WMG! Of course this is for Doyle's original stories.
One aspect of this that works in that century better than this is that it explains why nobody told him the earth goes around the sun--he remembers some incidental non-crime-specific knowledge in other stories, and he wasn't interested in crime before the University. Why wouldn't someone put a primer in front of an obviously clever kid with twelve year old with a prodigious brother at University? Okay, I'll stop.

Oh, I meant in another century if he wasn't raised as a guy it would make sense but in the updated version it doesn't make that much of a difference.

oh right Well in upper-class society the social rules for women would still be roughly the same I'd think.

pretty close for a lot of stuff, except now home tutoring would be nearly even regardless of gender, and would prepare any wealthy to go to University (if only to find a husband,) whereas then a girl would learn music and languages and wouldn't be at all expected to attend any school, the first women accepted to Universities (in real life) happened in the middle of Holmes (fictional) lifetime.
Sherlock must be young in this picture, right? I'd assume he'd go for top surgery, for convenience.
I'm extremely babbley about this topic and the only way to make me stop is to ignore me, by the way.
Very pretty picture, good job, yes.

Bah! That sounded bad. I mean it would've made a bigger difference in the 19th century, when he'd be transitioning from being basically a non-person regards to voting, schooling, that stuff.
