(A Certain Magical Index VS Akira)
-Overpowered and insane fifteen-year-old anime espers with similar personalities who gained their exceptional powers through government programs (The Power Curriculum Program and The Project) intending to create super-powered espers. They're one of the strongest among their kind, which is also seen as the next stage of human evolution.

-Both participated in secret government experiments (The Level 6 Shift Project and The Project) backed by mad scientists seeking to replicate the immense godly powers of an esper state/being (Level 6 and Akira). Both Accelerator and Tetsuo are associated with this godly level/being: Accelerator is the only Level 5 capable of achieving Level 6 and staying stable while doing so, and Tetsuo's power and psychic ability is often compared to Akira's.

-These experiments kickstarted their descent down violent, evil paths, and they also become immensely traumatized in the process: Accelerator, despite starting out with noble intentions, would eventually massacre over 10,000 clones, something that would haunt him immensely. Tetsuo, after gaining psychic powers beyond his wildest dreams, goes absolutely insane and wastes no time in abusing his newfound power. Said power is also the cause of Tetsuo's painful headaches and violent hallucinations, and this power soon grew beyond his control, marking the beginning of the end of Tetsuo's story.

-Both initially sought to increase their already god-like powers, one for more noble reasons than the other (Accelerator wanting to become and be known as the most powerful and feared esper ever so that no one would try to attack and die at his hands, while Tetsuo only wanted power just for the sake of it, something he later admits to), but after an enlightening event, they no longer wanted to go even further beyond (Accelerator being defeated by Touma Kamijou, who's heroism and actions caused the Level 5 to realize his mistakes, while Tetsuo transcends space and time, reliving his birth, coming to understand the nature of the Stream and the universe itself). They differ in that while Accelerator desperately tries to redeem himself afterwards, Tetsuo continues to walk down an evil path.

-Both would be opposed by relatively average dudes (Touma Kamijou and Shotaro Kaneda) with contrasting luck, who constantly put them on the ropes despite their lack of superhuman strength. Both grew to completely despise these individuals, and in addition gained feelings of jealous towards them, which influences and taints their future actions (Accelerator envies Touma's heroic personality, and desperately wants to be a hero like he believes Touma is, even declaring himself a villain when he believes he cannot achieve that level, while Tetsuo resents Kaneda for always being better than him, always being the one in charge, and always saving him, desiring to surpass him in every step of the way even after he obtains god-like powers). After their illusions and preconceptions are shattered by this guy (Touma shattering Accelerator's fantasy of "Heroes" and "Villains" during their second battle, and Kaneda reveals to Tetsuo's spirit that he just wanted to be his friend), they'd ultimately make peace with their former enemy, choosing to cast aside their hatred.

-Both befriend/ally themselves with children related to the secret experiments (Last Order and Akira) that were assigned serial numbers denoting their positions in the project (Number 20001 for Last Order and Number 26 for Akira). Furthermore, these children are connected to telepathic networks with others like themselves (The other Sisters and the other Espers).

-Their first attempt assisting these kids (Accelerator trying to stop Last Order from dying due to a virus inside her and Tetsuo freeing Akira by guiding him out of his underground containment facility) would end in them becoming seriously injured and being put out of action for some time (Accelerator becoming permanently brain damaged after being shot in the head while Tetsuo has his right arm blasted off by the orbital laser SOL).

-Both have more caring sides they show only to girls they're very close to (Last Order and Kaori).

-Both would become the rulers of independent city-nations (Academy City and the Great Tokyo Empire), going on to use their positions in opposite ways (Accelerator use his position for good by trying to eradicate the Dark Side of Academy City while Tetsuo simply abuses his position for constant sex and inflating his ego)

-Their esper powers have been referred to as the 'Power of God' before. However, said power has done more harm than good to their lives, with Accelerator's powers making him the strongest Level 5 of Academy City, causing him to be subject to constant harassment from those wanting to pick a fight with him, and scientific interest due to the nature of his abilities, which ultimately ends up in him becoming immensely traumatized after he genocides over 10,000 clones, with his following attempt to save Last Order ends in him being permanently brain damaged. As a child, he was also unable to fit in with other children, and at one point caused an incident that caused Academy City to be deployed against him, becoming somewhat of a distrustful loner as a result. Furthermore, due to the nature of his powers, he has to consciously let light enter his eyes and allow gravity to affect his body. Tetsuo is infamously driven mad after obtaining his powers, going on a rampage which cumulates in him freeing Akira (losing his right arm in the process) who later destroys Neo-Tokyo. Since he gained his powers, he is now constantly in pain, suffering from painful headaches quelled solely by heavy drugs and occasionally experiences violent hallucinations foretelling the future. He eventually begins to lose control of his powers after he punches a hole in the Moon, then finally loses control entirely after Kaori's death, resulting in his grotesque mutation. Now in unimaginable agony, Tetsuo's sole salvation comes in his death and ascension to a higher plane of existence.

-Additionally, Accelerator has various angelic transformations, giving this battle an Angel vs God theme.

-Coincidentally, Tetsuo gains pale skin and white hair during the last act of the Akira manga, which make him look a bit similar to Accelerator.
