(Elfen Lied VS Akira)
• Both of them used to be kids who grew up in orphanages, although they contrast in that while Tetsuo's mother was the one who gave him up to the orphanage because she didn't want him, Lucy's mother still wanted her and was trying to find a way to get her back.
• They both eventually where captured and taken for a government program to create/study superpowered people, in the wake of a violent tradgedy (Tetsuo got in a crash with his bike and he was taken afterwards for the Esper experiments, and Lucy's friend was shot and heavily injured and in exchange for her life Lucy was taken for the Diclonous Research Program.)
• Both of them escaped their bondage, absolutely murdering everyone around them and tearing up the facility with their psychic abilities
• Both of their anime series are incredibly gory and have heavy elements of body horror and dismemberment
• When they both go too far and use their powers too much, their bodies start to disfigure and contort into disgusting, flesh-melty-looking versions of themselves (Tetsuo turns into the Ego Death form and Lucy turns into the melty goo-puddle version of herself)
• Both of them had basically the exact opposite reaction to their newfound freedom after escaping the facility (Tetsuo basically conquered and tore apart Tokyo, and Lucy tried to lay low and not use her abilities while living with Kōuta and Yuka.)
• Scientist in both of their stories constantly compare their abilities to different scientific processes like nuclear fission/fusion
• Both of them are incredibly powerful psychic threats with similar-ish powers. Similar enough to work next to one another.
