Tesia's POV:

After maybe 30 minutes more walking down we reached an open enough space that we could start doing our hard and tedious work.

The whole time coming down we had to haul most of our equipment since it cannot be left in the mines overnight. If we did that the essence beasts that still live around could break or steal it, which of course would lead to a reduction in productivity and our great guard overlords would frown at that. We had very little leeway, if we didn't bring back a certain amount of material we would be sent to the punishment ward at the end of the week where our stamina would be zapped, someone in the crew mentioned that most of the punishments were using different forms arcanium restraints, I still remember the preventative punishment that Dezra put me through when I first arrived and I don't want to go through that again.

Even supports like myself are required to work in mining operations. Our team was composed of 4 delvers and 2 supports and this was plenty enough. If we grew more than this it would cause too much strain to reach our quotas, which would lead to punishments to happen and lead to a vicious cycle of exhaustion. If that happened I heard that crews were broken up and you could even end up in different cell blocks.

The possibility of this is something that terrifies me. I can consider myself somewhat lucky despite being incarcerated, I heard of how other crews exploit their supports and make them work to horrible exhaustion. As a water essence user, my support was that I could help the stamina of my crew last longer, and if there were small scrapes and injuries I could deal with them which theoretically improved production, but only Rihg knew by how much.

"Everyone break time" Rihg called out after what felt like forever.

Just working a couple of hours maintaining our essence active to deal with the environment and using it to mine was strenuous enough.

We sat down in a circle on the floor, unwrapped our lunch, and ate it silently, every little bit of energy saved was important. Our food mostly consisted of some dried hard jerky that we wrapped in some bread and on some occasions we added vegetables into the mix. The main reason for the dry food mostly policy is that we did not wanted to attract beasts with the smell of cooking an the environment of the mines would spoil the food or fill it with dust. Thus we ate dry tasteless food.

This food sucks, I thought for the millionth time since I got incarcerated. Even now I still have cravings for outside food, the girls from the crew occasionally had some contraband foods brought in, how they got in was a mystery that apparently I was still too new to know. We always end up eating our foods down here since going back up would be a waste of time and energy. We could have relatively good freedom down here in the caves and work as much as we wanted, but if we didn't reach our quotas ... well that would be a problem.

At this point in time, my uniform was already drenched and the white shirt underneath was filled with so much sweat that I felt I could wring it and fill a bucket with my sweat.

After I finished eating was the moment that my work started, since it is the moment that I could use my essence to help the delver team recover their stamina and relieve some of the pain they had accumulated.

"Ahhh that's the stuff of heaven's, thank you Tesia you are an Angel for the old soul that is living in this young body" said Rihg as I took away some of her muscle and joint pain while I rolled my eyes. I feel like half the reason I am on this crew is because she was getting old and the joint pain from rigorous work of the past two decades was accumulating.

"All right, everyone let's get back to it we have at least 4 hours of work before having to head back up" As Rihg said that we went and started grabbing our instruments once again.
