This is good but next time I recommend you blend the feet more into the water, you can do this by using the eraser brush on a low opacity and just erase it into the water but not so much that you can't see it. Also a painted mane might look quite nice, you just use a paint brush on size 2 px and add a base colour and then highlights and then lowlights. I hope this helped you out a bit.

I am slightly embarrased to ask this but how do you change the color of the brush?

When you click on the paint brush you will see the paint tool (tools box) and there should be 2 squares, one white and one black. If you click on one of the squares then you will be able to change the colour to what you want. If you can't figure it out then maybe try using google and typing in how to change your brush colour in gimp.
