I'm going to be honest that I prefer this version over the squid that g1 used.

To be fair, this is inspired by Final Fantasy's quirkier aquatic monsters so there's a wide gap in art quality between the two companies!

Thanks! I wanted to keep the tentacles in but make it a different sea monster, so I used the Leviathan from Final Fantasy as reference.

I could imagin him having sea ponies being slave in the fim version.

In my personal headcanon that's not the case, but it is pretty plausible for something as big as a Leviathan like this.

I'm writing a mini-story about their role in the FiM universe, but that's been on hold for a little while since I'm working on ask blogs and college. You'll just have to wait for now... :U

I recall in expanded source materials for G4, there is an "Aquastria" which is populated by seaponies and ruled by a King Leo, who is a literal "sea lion" and an ally of Celestia's, confirming they do exist in the G4-verse. With that being legit, it's certainly believable that Squirk or a retooling of him like this could exist, too.

It's apparently all featured in a book called "Under the Sparkling Sea".
With all that, I can sort of envision Squirk/Leviathan as a foe of King Leo's or a powerful sea monster he liberated/protected Aquastria from long ago.
That said I like the design in how it's sort of an almagation of different sea creatures(shark, sea serpent, giant squid, crab) with the character's color scheme.

The basics of the body design were based on the boss/summon Leviathan from Final Fantasy IV, with the additions of the small tentacles, swirling plates and such. I thought it might be a nice concept for the colors and the way that Delta drew it turns out to have fit nicely!

Nahhh, I decided to just rework them as their own villains. Heck, in this scenario the Crystal Chrysalis only has 3 Changelings to command during the fight scenes, not an entire swarm. Assistants weren't at the front of my thoughts when planning it.

Delta, A.K.A. Double Trouble, is the codename I give to the friend who draws about half of my updates. All of these villains, for example, were drawn by him. I just did the coloring.

Yeah, I've decided that Squirk is his birth name and he tries to be called Leviathan but nopony ever calls him that and he gets mad about it
