Phew! I've begun this one idek how long ago, but was forced to put it aside for a while. So, I picked it up again and I finished it once for all! I was becoming frustrated with backgrounds, so I wanted to try something new - no, this didn't popped out from nothing, I'm not that skilled, I just dug out this photo from Wikimedia Commons (now open it in another tab and play "spot the difference" jk)
I had fun! I mean, the foliage is always a pain, but I had a great time with the chalk brush on Photoshop. I do not remember every single passage, but in short I took the photo, turned it in grayscale, applied colours sloppily using layer modes like multiply and overlay (maybe some else, it was very random), applied filters until the image had turned into a blotchy mess-- then started painting over. I love the result, I want to try the same thing again with some different landscapes (something full of rocks would be great! But also ruins would be fun I think...).
