Journalist: During your work in the farm fields, were your hands, feet or clothes often caked with mud?

Marin: Yes, farm work tends to get very dirty. Especially when weeding, both my hands and feet would be covered with mud. My clothes would also get soiled from bending down during labor.

Journalist: I'm curious, in the restrictive prison environment, how did you deal with this?

Marin: The prison provides basic amenities for cleaning, like being able to wash our hands and bathe once a day. For clothes, I would hand wash and air dry them back in my cell. Removing the mud felt refreshing, but the process itself was lonesome and tedious.

Journalist: You work so hard yet contribute greatly to the prison. Truly deserving of sincere appreciation.

Marin: Thank you. Even with limitations, hope is what makes all sacrifices feel worthwhile.
