Description
Found this meme and figure I'd do something for new years. Here's the original meme: [link]1) Move Along
One of the first emotional comics I ever done. More somber than emotional, actually. This comic was me telling myself that in order to walk into the future you must let go of the past. I know I had my Pokemon Ruby game in mind when I made this, but I guess it could apply to many situations. Around this time I was also cutting my losses in a lot of other areas, namely my old RP guild MGH. My old role play guild had been a great part of my artistic career both in providing a constant source of challenges as well as cultivating Zero’s character. I owe a lot to this group, but it was time for me to fly the coop.
2) FanArtFebruary
Febuary 2010 was my first year of FanArtFebruary, a little something started by JohnSu in Feb 2009. In his own words, “Fanart February is when I draw a bunch of fanart for various reasons. One is to simply indulge in the stuff I like. Another is to secretly hope to strike it rich with a fanbase and rake in the pageviews pay my respects to other creative minds (often by making fun of them). And of course, fanart is also useful for growing as an artist by copying style and content and learning from that.” I normally don’t ever do FanArt of anything (pokemon don’t count >.>), so this was a challenge for me.
After two years of FanArtFeb, this is what JohnSu had to say:
“So in conclusion, not gonna do it next year. I will instead just draw fanart Once In A While Whenever It Feels Appropriate. There is no good reason to do only fanart in February and never anytime else.”
Haha, oh well, it’s a cool idea, and so from now on I shall carry on this tradition that is only two years old and continue to do fanart in the month of February! Horray!
3) Tablet
On February 18th, I went out and procured for myself a brand new tablet! This was the very first thing I drew with it, it has taken some getting used to, but by now it is full of scratches and well worn. I wonder if it will last another year?
4) Memes
With a new tablet came the ability to do more memes. From January to October I completed a total of 8 memes, including the infamously long CRAZY OC meme and everyone’s favorite, the Pain and Torture meme . Other memes include the Riot is the word dance and the sparkle army invasion .
5) Princess and the Frog
Possibly Disney's last great traditionally animated feature length film, this movie (along with an animation book my dad gave me for my birthday) renewed in me a love of the traditional form of animation. I still want to work for Pixar, but I am now open to the possibilities traditional animation have to offer. Too bad neither form is taught at my school...
6) Arts Bus
My second ArtsBus trip to New York City. Last time I took the taxi around town, but this time I walked. From Chelsey (W21st st 10th ave) all the way up to the Neue Gallary (over on 5th ave past the Metropolitan Museum of Art). Saw a bunch of gallaries, explored the MOMA (saw Van Gogh's Starry Starry Night) and did some figure sketching in the Met. Also got to walk through Times Square. It was fun, but man was I tired.
7) LiveStream
Started my own livestream channel at livestream.com/zeropro . The possibilities are endless! I streamed some of my drawing, though not a lot, and now that I have the Hetalia DVDs I can stream anime if I can figure out how to do that. I think this was the first time I officially used my studio name, ZeroPro, anywhere on the web, and soon it would become official even in my eyes.
8) FMA ends
The anime had long since run it's course, but in 2010 the manga finally caught up to it. I am always astonished when a series like FMA ends, and now that FMABro is out in both dub and sub, I can safely say this boat has sailed. Now we await the day when series like Naruto and One Piece do the same. Let me tell you, that day may never come, but when it does, there will be a great gasp from all the nations of the world.
And yes, Bleach did "end," but then they started a whole nother arch. So no, we have yet to see the end of that series as well.
9) Animal Crossing City Folk
It's possibly the game of the year. I literally have not played any other game all year. Sure I dabbled in other stuff like PetPetPark and MarioBros. 3, but those came and went. Not only was ACCF the only game I consistaintly played throughout the year, but it is the only video game my Mom has ever played with me, and she really got into it. XD
10) Parody Chapter 5
After quite a few years of not touching this thing, I finally sat down and decided to finish it. Chapter 5 was coming along quite nicely, until the very end when, I have no idea what happened. In any case, it seems I will be pulling a Harry Potter on you by splitting Volume 5 of the manga into two Chapters. I have an idea of how to translate the last random bits of the manga (and they really are random) into a satisfying conclusion for my story, but am not quite sure how to do it. I better think of something fast, because summer is closer than you think.
11) Car accident
My car gave me a lot of grief this year. First the battery dies, and then the tires need to be replaced. Even after all that, it was still my own stupidity that finished it off. Driving drowsy is never ok, and I learned that the hard way at the loss of my car. This is probably the worst thing that has ever happened to me, this year, and I am still suffering from the effects of it (not emotionally, but certainly financially)
12) Toy Story 3
Pixar's very first success was Toy Story. Now the story has come to an end. It certainly is a momentous occasion. In fact, after the flop movie of Up, and their next movie being a sequel to Cars, I certainly hope this doesn't mark the end of Pixar's line of awesomeness.
13) 100 theme challenge
Started on August 4th, it’s been five months and I’m currently on theme number 11. Horray, this is taking much too long. It’s been loads of fun, however, and I love challenges. I have already chosen my next challenge after I finish this one. Hurr hurr.
14) 7Rods
Dont think just because I left MGH I was going to stop RPing. This RP has been a big on going event of this year, and I can see it continuing to be one.
15) Animation
My attempts of animation started with Leek Spins and small bunny gifs , later to evolve into something I can actually use in a class project or as a Studio Opening . I’ve come to the conclusion that Animation is a trade for the perversely masochistic.
16) DesuDes Brigade
I found I watch a lot more anime reviews now, much more than I watch anime. My favorite reviewer is most defiantly JesuOtaku of the D2Brigade, but after joining the site I am now a follower of all of the Brigadiers. D2B has taught me many things, like how to appreciate Dubbed anime and give it a chance, and what Moe is. It is also the source of memorable quotes such as REAL MEN watch Princess TuTu (i want that shirt!).
17) Anime
Not to say I haven't seen any anime this year. I watched a lot in fact. I got to see a lot of awesome anime this year. Baccano!, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Nobari no O, Princess TuTu, Trigun, Dullalala!!, Dokuro-Chan, Grrl Power, and Hetalia. Hetalia simply must take the cake here as possibly the most overrated show ever. Alone it is nothing spectacular, but mix in a bunch of cosplayers and fanart and a basic understanding of world history and presto, you get a cultural phenomena. Baccano! is by far my favorite show thus far. The first anime I’ve ever bought, I now have two copies of the box set because a certain friend of mine was awesome enough to get me it for Christmas!
Currently I am watching Gurren Lagann, though I am only on episode 3 and have no time to watch it...
18) NaNoWriMo
Speaking of challenges, you all remember NaNoWriMo right? My first year participating in National Novel Writing Month, NaNoWriMo is like FanartFebruary in that it is a one-month event. Happening in November, the goal is to pump out a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. I took the challenge, and I won. Never wrote a novel before, I’m just that freakin awesome that way. Actually I’m not, as you can see, because although I slid past the quota with 50,007 words an hour before the deadline, my novel is still not done, and now that I don’t have the excuse of “it sucks because I wrote it for nanowrimo,” I’m scared to finish it. Also I’m lazy.
19) Pokemas
This year's Christmas cards had a pokemon theme. I've been on a Pokemon fast for the longest time because of the new gen of pokemon. I wanted to start playing Black with absolutely no idea what to expect. It was nice to draw pokemon again.
20) Lackadaisy
It's the last hottest thing of the year! My roommate showed this to me near the beginning of December, and I love it so much. It's like Baccano! but with cats, and I think I've found my absolute favorite character of all time. The art is amazing and the story is great. If you haven't already, do yourself a favor and check it out.
And that is my year in review. Have a happy new year everybody, and enjoy your last days of 2010!

Pfft, the brigade is awesome. XD
All male anime fans must watch Princess tutu to become a man, t'is a right of passage, or something of the sort.

I liked Mytho near the end, when he chose Rue < 33
It made me happy.
I didn't get to watch it with a sister, because I don't have one. I did get to watch it with my friend, though. My mom walked in and was apparently very disturbed. They weren't even doing ballet at the time.
It wasn't as bad as when my friend's dad walked in when we were watching Gankutsuou, at like the worst part in the show. He couldn't have possibly have walked in any other time, it had to be right then.

thats always annoying when that happens. luckaly i aint allowed to watch anime, so i take very high precautions about when and where i do it.
As soon as mytho stopped being either boring or evil i liked him better, but it just took too long to get there.

You're not allowed to watch anime? That's silly. My parents don't care. I mean, my hobbies are reading, writing and watching Japanese cartoons, they aren't about to complain. At least I'm not doing drugs like most other kids.
He was pretty cool when he was evil. To me, anyway. I just like villains, though. Fakir is my favorite though, along with the nerd kid from the library. I felt bad for him. He could never read in peace.
Another anime I'm having trouble getting my friend's to watch it Baccano! One of my friends looked at the art and said it looked,
wait for it,
lame.
Nope, not kidding, she said Baccano looked lame. >:U
The same friend who I watched Princess Tutu and Gankutsuou with watched Baccano with me. She's the only one of my friends who's seen it so far, but she loves it.
The rest of my friends need to learn that I give amazing recommendations >:U

Baccano! is totally not lame!
i own baccano! >w< my parents dont see anime as it's own thing, i guess it applies to any animation. if the anime is nice (ie not a lot of bad words, excessive violence, evil spirits, so on) its ok for me to watch it. however, that's like most anime...
but baccano! is my favorite anime. it was the first anime i bought, and that was because the funi site took the dub down.
Fakir is my favorite character too, haha.

I know, right? She said, "it looks lame, it sounds lame, it is lame"
And then I
I want to own it to, for the same reason as you ;w;
It would be freaking unbelievable /shot
And it would look gorgeous on my TV
My parents don't care about violence and swearing. You know what movie we watched together just recently? Kick-ass. Yeah, they don't care. xD

Yes, Halls. No one seems to know what they are. They're the route of all evil.
No, I don't. I'm just their friendly neighborhood stalker at the moment. If I were to join I have a feeling that I'd do/say some stupid stuff. I don't know exactly why. I may just be a little paranoid because when I stalk the boards everyone is ehem, older than me. It may be a stupid reason, but I don't really want to be the youngest one on the site.

haha XD oh ok. well, i only joined recently (still feels recent to me). I put it off mostly because i thought everyone was just way cooler than me. and they are, but i kinda dont care anymore. i dont know how old anyone on the site is, and i dont think it matters, as long as you can have a good stimulating discussion about anime you shouldn't feel you are too young.
i put my age limit on baccano! at 18, but i guess 17 is ok too. it's just rated MA on the box, but then again, so is hetalia

I remember seeing it labeled as 17+ somewhere. LOL, Hetalia. I do like it, but dammmn. It's so overrated. People worship it like it's the best anime ever.

Zerochan923600 In reply to SimbaTheHuman [2011-01-09 02:01:37 +0000 UTC]
I personally dont think it is an overrated show, because in my opinion it is hardly a show at all. With episodes only about 5 minutes each, and characters that are so superficial and hard to understand, Hetalia's success is due mostly to it's fanbase, fan art, and world history classes. So, unlike Naruto, who's fanbase actually does make the show overrated, I dont think Hetalia fans made Hetalia overrated, i think the fans make the series. I first watched it with my friends, who are big Hetalia fans, and i swear, this show would not have been as good as it was without it.
and really, it isn't the best anime ever, but it might just be the best idea ever. its more than just a show, it is more like a pop cultural phenomina!

SimbaTheHuman In reply to Zerochan923600 [2011-01-09 02:12:19 +0000 UTC]
I guess you're right. The thing that really annoys me is when people say that Hetalia taught them History. If it jump-started your interest in history, that's cool. However, it is not a history book by any means. I love it, but I like the comic Scandinavia and the world (which I am sure you have heard of) in terms of... that sort of thing. Well, they aren't too alike. Hetalia deals with historic thing, where SATW deals with current events (mostly) but still...
I don't think it's the best idea ever. I good one, in it's own way. Not the best, though. And yes, Hetalia will slowly take over the world, and we'll all love it.

If not ever, than at least in a long time. Probubly since the vocaloid craze, at least around here. Certainly Hetalia couldn't have taught me history if it wanted to, but history makes hetalia much more fun than it could be, and certainly hetalia sparked a new kind of love for history in it's own right, at least for me XD (i never really liked history. too many dates)
Scandinavia and the world? Never read it, but my friends all love it. i need to pick it up someday.

I always loved History. It was interesting to me. Well, it still is. I was stalking looking at the comments under JO's top 25 anime list, and I noticed that you said one of the anime you didn't really want to see is Gankutsuou. Why is this?
It's one of my personal top five. 8P
Yeah, you should. My favorite will forever be the Beer ghost one. xD

Zerochan923600 In reply to SimbaTheHuman [2011-01-09 03:18:07 +0000 UTC]
Ah, Gankutsuou. Well, many reasons actually. First of all, I dont have a great amount of time to watch anime, so I dont ever see a show unless I really want to, know it is amazing, or feel terribly obligated. Now, because I watch anime as a hobby, I like to enjoy the show I am watching and have a good time; therefore, the obligated to watch thing dosn't actually drive me to watch a show unless something else helps it along. For instance, I watched Trigun last summer because JO started doing in betweens, and i thought hey i should see this classic and so i did. This summer I plan to watch Cowboy Bebop, because even though I am not terribly interested in it, I feel ashamed to admit I haven't seen it. Apparently I still have yet to pass my rite of passage into anime fandom.
Gankutsuou falls in the "I feel like i should watch this because it is apparently amazing" category, but i myself dont feel very interested in it. Part of this might be because of it's very stylized coloring (that thing where it's like patterns instead of actual shading and what not) which gives me a bit of a head ache everytime i see it, and the other because I am lazy and feel like the plot would be much more complicated than I am willing to make my brain work to understand. I just aint interested in this kinda thing i guess. It's a shame too, because i can tell it is great stuff. It's just not my cup of tea.

Oh, Cowboy Bebop. I haven't seen it either. -shame- I'm waiting for it to get back to episode one on adult swim, then I'll watch it weekly.
It is amazing. It's the only anime I own. Yeah, the animation/colouring is odd. I got used to it, and even learned to love it. It's to bad that you don't want to watch it. X3
I joined the site, btw. If you hadn't noticed xD
