Description
Blank MemeIts been a while since I drew anything just for the fun of it, so I thought I'd revisit one of my old memes. Plus it gives me another opportunity to ramble about things i love. There are at least two characters making a reappearance, but the others are new. I have a feeling I'm supposed to draw them in my own style, or in a way that makes them less obvious, so I tried to do that. But i think its still kind of obvious. Good luck!
Did you finish guessing? Did you want me to name them? Ok, here I go!
Here there be spoilers
Kurama (Yu Yu Hakushio)
I recently rewatched Yu Yu Hakushio, and was reminded how much I love this character. A lot of my close friends know I can be a bit of a sadist when it comes to fictional characters (ok, a lot of a sadist), and I think it might have come from being raised on characters like this. This character especially seems set on seeing how injured he can get in every battle. It comes to no surprise his episodes are my favorite. ^w^
Karkat (Homestuck)
So while we're on the topic of sadism. This poor kid never catches a break, but i guess a horrible life is kind of a given when you're a troll (they sleep in weird green goo that is essentially a sedative because their race is plagued by night terrors, like wow). What I love about Karkat is the way he deals with his issues: though his initial reaction is to lash out angrily, he does cry when his friends are killed, feel fear when he's all alone (and a scary mass murdering clown is stalking him), regret for mistakes he made, frustration, concern, and even has moments when he can calm down and have a sincere heart to heart with a close friend. And it doesnt hurt that he gets hurt/injured/killed/emotionally damaged during the comic. That's always fun.
Homura (Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica)
I think I just like characters that had to suffer. It's not my fault, these characters are just more interesting! Homura is, in my opinion, the most interesting thing about Madoka Magica, and I consider her to be the real protagonist of the show. Poor girl had to relive the same few months over and over again all to try and protect the one friend she's ever had, watching said friend die so many times, finally pushing herself to the point of loosing not only the friendships she once had, but her own identity. She's just this sad, tired, and broken character that's still alone at the end, and that just makes me so sad.
Accelerator (A Certain Magical Index)
This show isn't even all that good, and this character is only in 3 episodes, but he's such an awesome character that the sole reason I want to watch the second season is to see more of this character! Oh, and did I mention he gets shot in the head? He was able to repel the bullet with his powers at the last moment and save his life, but his verbal and computational abilities were damaged in the process. I haven't seen the second season (waiting for a dub) but according to the season two opening, he becomes a Handicapped Badass . >w<
Edgeworth (Ace Attorney)
You know, I seem to have a thing for the "bad guy turns good guy" type character. I love how Edgeworth changes through the games, starting as the best of the best in Prosecution, in contrast to Phoenix's inexperience, then becomes the one in the defendant's chair (shock!), to becoming the moral compass for the protagonist, who is now wavering in his path. I just love the bond of trust that is forged between him and the protagonist. like, that's the kind of development I want to see in a good story!
Link (Wind Waker)
It is my opinion that Wind Waker Link is the best Link, hands down. Yes, maybe I'm biased because Wind Waker was my first real Zelda game, but I have other points to back up my view too! Remember how in Ocarina of Time, Navi goes and finds Link sleeping in the middle of the day and calls him a lazy kid? Well, lets cut him some slack, he's not exactly popular around town, he's the only boy without a fairy, he's been having nightmares so he's probably not getting a lot of sleep, I think he deserves a nap if he can grab it. Now Wind Waker Link, on the other hand, his old granny has to send his little sister to go get him because the lazy kid has run off to take a nap on his birthday, which he seems to have forgotten all about! And it isnt just a birthday, it's his coming of age ceremony! What I'm trying to say is, the Link from Wind Waker was never really destined to be a great hero, he just sorta fell into it. He left home, not to save the world, but to save his sister. He didn't have the Triforce of Courage at the beginning, he had to actually prove himself worthy of it by finding all the pieces. He doesnt even get a sidekick to follow him around and tell him stuff all the time, the King of Red Lions just gives him some info and sais "Ok, now go on into that dangerous dungeon, good luck!" Also, I think this is the only Link (I think) that has some sort of relationship with Zelda other than knight to princess, like, they actually got to know each other as people before falling into their roles (skyward sword doesnt count). But after all that, after coming so far, in the end Ganon just slaps the sword out of his hand and beats him up with his fists, and you are reminded that he might be playing hero, but in the end he's still just a kid. Even so, I love how he's this happy kid living in a post-apocolyptic world. Also let it be remembered that Wind Waker Link meows.
Kino (Kino's Journey)
Another kind of character I like is the stoic. The character that just sorta is there, doesnt seem to care about anything, but has layers of character underneath. The thing about Kino is that she's so strong and so independent, that those rare moments of humanity that peek out really hit you and hit you hard. My favorite episode is the one with the snow and the rabbits, the action scene at the end was so fast and comes right out of nowhere that you just feel the rush, but it's the scene afterwards when Kino (after having expertly dealt with the three slave drivers with nary a blink) actually admits to feeling the same anxiety the audience felt during the standoff before, and it's just such a raw reminder of how human she is.
Mordecai (Lackadaisy Cats)
I had a character from this webcomic in my previous FavCharMeme, and I love both of them pretty much equally. Like Kino, Mordecai is a death dealing stoic, except where Kino would now and then let show her humanity, Mordecai seems to be hiding something a lot more...crazy. Not much is revealed about this character yet, I just love seeing him whenever he makes an appearance. Sometimes its just that look a character has, and I love the way he looks.
Shana (Shakugan No Shana)
I dont know why I love this character so much, I even find her kind of annoying in the first season, the show itself is super cliche, I dont know. Somehow Shana has made the list twice, and its not like this list replaces the previous one, I still love all the characters in the last one, but Sometimes I just cant think of anyone new and of all the characters Shana gets a repeat. I have watched the second season now (cant remember if that was the case last time) and i must say i'm impressed by the way they handled the relationships and drama set up in the first season. The characters actually talked to each other and actually advanced in their relationships, it was very refreshing.
Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin)
My childhood! I love characters that hide things. On the surface they are one way, but push them too far and they show who they really are underneath. Kenshin is kinda like this, except rather then trying to fool everyone into thinking he's actually this nice goofy guy who talks peace and does the laundry and plays with kids rather than a cold blooded assassin who has killed hundreds of men, but he really wants to become that peaceful man he projects to others. He's a reformer, and a repenter, but just a little bit psychotic when you think about how he switches into batosai mode. Like, how creepy is that that he actually has a man-slayer mode that he could accidentally slip into, like if he kills again he wont be able to stop, like a starving wolf that tastes fresh blood again. That's really scary, and makes you really appreciate the way he is now.

As to Link and Zelda's knowing each other personally BEFORE falling into their roles, while I can't say that Spirit Tracks (the game no one wants to admit happened) shares that lofty claim, it does allow Link and Zelda to come to know each other both during and after falling into their roles, as well as their relationship actually seeming to develop? (IE compare to OoT, where Link and Zelda's relationship was mostly comprised of 'pretty girl, must save').

I won't lie, if you can't stand touch screen mechanics the game will run you into the ground during the TUTORIAL. If by chance you played phantom hourglass, you might remember how you could chart as complex or simple a course as you liked, and spirit tracks takes that and chucks it out the window in favor of a few set paths and complicated mechanisms to make traveling even MORE difficult. That being said, if you can see past the travel aspect some of the game's dungeons and mechanics can be quite enjoyable. Even if one of the sidequests is one of the most painful challenges ever to hit a zelda title. IMO x3

i've downloaded a rom of it, hoping to try it out and see if it is worth buying, so maybe its a good thing it favors the touch screen? i'm really bad at playing games on a keyboard, i need to have a controller in my hand.

If you can get it used, it might be. But yeah, maybe a let's play or a gameplay trailer would be best first. That way you can see some of the mechanics that might ruin the game for you, if nothing else.
I'm assuming you don't have someone nearby who's played it so you can badger them for their copy?

i've done the whole "barrow a copy from someone" before and it didnt turn out well (i ended getting too far in the barrowed copy, then when i bought my own i didnt feel like playing it anymore.)
is the story interesting? maybe i'll get it based on that. Wind Waker had amazing characters and an amazing ending, so if its like that i'm sure i can overlook annoying gameplay
you know what, i might just go and get a used copy for as cheep as i can find
