Description
Full title: "The Company of Captain Frans Badger Cocq and Lieutenant Willem Van Harenburch Preparing to March Out", based on Rembrandt's piece of the same name.In the same spirit as the elephanton crossing the delawar piece i did years ago, I've used the background (in this case the floor and walls) from the original painting and painted the creatures on top of it. If you were wondering as to the choice of animals, I was inspired (as i always am when dealing with animals) with Brian Jacques' Redwall series. it's a curse, i cannot escape it.
Painted this digitally for a school art auction event a month or two ago, it was a show stopper to say the least, got sold for about half it's retail price which was a little disappointing to me but I guess the buyer was happy and it was bid up twice so I'm pretty happy about that.
This piece is available as an art print at my store at zeropro.storenvy.com , and if I might say so myself, it looks real good printed out. like, real good.

naw, it's just a toad. in the original painting, it was a dog in that part of the painting. I was going to make it a beetle, but had trouble painting one, so i went with a toad instead.

Hey, I'm happy to see this! I haven't seen a painting based on Rembrandt's "Night Watch" like this before. Based on Redwall? Man, I still haven't read that one yet...

I WAS thinking Redwall when I looked at this, then I read your description and HA called it!
Don't think of it as a curse. think of it more like a guilty pleasure.
