Description
I bet some of you are thinking that this is the leaked cover art of a new Legend of Zelda game... Well...GOTCHA! Sorry, but no. This is something I thought up last night.
HOWEVER, if I find time, I might make it into a comic or, if I can learn a bit more programming, a fan-made fanart game.
Okay, here's where I got the idea for this. After playing Spirit Tracks, I got to thinking; what is the one piece of transportation they don't have in the Legend of Zelda world at this point? They have ships, trains, balloons (that traveling item shop), and several self-propelled non-rail based land vehicles (although they're used by the enemies in spirit tracks).
What are they lacking still?
Fixed-wing aircraft.
So, I came up with a storyline to this little idea as to why and how the airplane came about. It starts off like this...
About thirty years or so after Spirit Tracks, a large earthquake shot through the land of New Hyrule (the location of Spirit Tracks). Deep canyons were torn into the earth and mountain chains shot up from the ground, taking several towns with them (including Hyrule Castle). The spirit tracks remained, along with the tower of spirits and were still more or less functional. Their range however was now much more limited due to the winding peaks, making it difficult for shipments by train to continue. This prompted the development of the world's next technological marvel; the airplane; a machine that could take off, fly to a location, and land again.
Although the rails still run for passenger transit, aircraft now soar through the air above New Hyrule, transporting people and cargo to these now elevated locations.
The Link and Zelda we see flying here are the son of the Link and daughter of the Zelda from Spirit Tracks (however no, they are NOT siblings or related at all). This Link lives with his father (the Link from Spirit Tracks) near the village that houses the elder Link's train. This younger Link has a fascination with flying, and even managed to scrounge up enough money and parts for his own small bi-plane.
With his father's approval, Link (junior that is) headed out over the landscape towards one of the closest cities to them; Castle City, New Hyrule's capital. Upon arriving at its mountainside airport, he met up with a young girl about his age who was just a fascinated with flying as he was. He didn't realize it at the time, but this was the daughter of the land's ruler, Princess Zelda.
The two headed up for a plane ride in Link's aircraft, all the while being watched from a distance by an evil entity; the ghost of Cole (one of the villians from Spirit Tracks). This small demon's ghost had survived the fight between Link and Zelda (seniors that is) and now wanted revenge for destroying him and his demon master, Malladus (whose ghost was now being held in place by the spirits in their sky realm instead of on earth by the spirit tracks).
With what power he had left, he captured Zelda's daughter (in order to get a hold of the spirit power that all of Tetra's decendands have). This time however, he needed something that could reach the sky bound spirit world, so with a pulse of dark energy, turned Zelda (junior) into a bird.
Now, it's up to this new Link to save the day and return his new friend to normal.
Anyway, that's just a quick version of the story. I'll write up the full thing later.

Can I use the idea of an airplane in a Zelda game I'm creating? I've tried to think of a new mode of transportation for it, but a plane never crossed my mind. I thought I should ask and not just take the idea.

Go for it, although I don't think you should use the EXACT same plane design that I've made here.

Don't worry, I wouldn't use the same plane, just the idea of having a plane. Also, I'm not entirely sure if I'll use this idea. By the way, this is a great picture, good job.

they made
wind waker which had taken place in sea
Phantom hourglass which iz a sequel of wind waker
Spirit of tracks which iz either a sequel and/or the future adventure of phantom hourglass
and now Enchanted Skies maybe... jus maybe
and maybe u should send a message to the creator of legend of zelda and tell him about this (maybe) new idea of the new legend of zelda game that will come out in 2011 maybe

Well, I doubt he'll make this an actual game; I don't think Nintendo would take storyline suggestions like that.
I could send it there though (don't ask how, but I do have a way of sending things to Nintendo's top brass).

i will accept airplanes. but if they ever develop space travel, then it will be in the background. it will be known, but not much.

It'd be either this or space travel. But either would use magic somewhere. Very good eye! I was a big fan of Spirit Tracks myself.

Thanks. ^^
Although I doubt we'll ever see space travel in a Legend of Zelda game, especially seeing as how Mr. Miyamoto models each Legend of Zelda game after specific things that happened in his childhood (namely exploring the small towns and caves around his home town).

I think that it would be great if for just once, for one time, Link and Zelda WERE siblings. I think that could make their bond more real, and not something that just happened. And Link at first is a coward, or pretty close, while Zelda is brave. And her kidnapping forces Link to face his fears in order to save her. Yeah, that's my probably horrible idea.

Poor Epona is heartbroken from all these new ways of traveling. xD
This is a really good idea actually!
I'm sure that Nintendo is bound to make something with Link flying. xD

I hope that they make something like this. For some reason though I doubt that they'll use the Windwaker universe for much anymore after Spirit Tracks came out (as there have already been three games branching from that universe's storyline; Windwaker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks).

Ya... it's probably coming. Personally I'm waiting for the Zelda series to turn into a western.
Twilight Princess had a lot of Sepia tone to it's landscapes, and Spirit Tracks was of course based upon trains.

I'd bet that eventually they'd make a Zelda game with aircraft in it, but I doubt it'll be the exact same idea that I had here (unless by some chance I send it to Mr. Miyamoto and he likes it).

I would imagine they would introduce guns before they start flying around in airships like final fantasy...

ZeroDevil In reply to CKnightsofni [2010-01-10 02:32:32 +0000 UTC]
They kind of already have. In Spirit Tracks, you have a cannon on your train.
Besides, I never said that it would use a gun. Instead, I thought up a little device that works like a gun, but isn't one.
It goes something like this...
This device is mounted on an aircraft. It has a long barrel on the top wing (positioned so that it doesn't hit the prop blades) which is connected to an air compressor in the cockpit (which is driven off of the engine). There is also a dispensor attached to the barrel by a long hose which runs in between the dispensor, barrel, and compressor. The dispensor holds Deku seeds which, when a button on the control stick is pressed, go into the tube, and are fired out the barrel with compressed air from the compressor.
It's a simple, air-powered substitute to a .30-cal machine gun (plus, since it isn't actually a gun per say, there will be no sensors in a riot about violence).

Yup, anyone will be able to (as if I did sell it for cash it'd be copyright infringement as Nintendo owns the titles to the series).
In short, if I do make the game, it'll be FREE for download for anyone who wants it.

Once I find out where to send it to, I might.
If not, I'll probably end up making a comic out of this or, if I can learn the right coding, make the game myself.

it simply is a great story concept and would make a different and fresh sequel to spirit tracks (as you don't expect a sequel)
Nintendo would do well to read this story

Yeah, but I don't know if they'd use it or not. It's Mr. Miyamoto's call, as it's his game series, and one that's very close to him.

As if I'm going to bribe the head of Nintendo. >_<
Anyway, I'd just submit the idea to him and see what he thinks of it, that's all. If he did use it for a game, I'd be thrilled, but I don't see that happening. I can however see myself making it as a fan art game on my own (once I figure out all the programming involved).
