Description
This is the early ideation thumbnails of the champion Syndra. Her codename was "Sym" so the name you see on these pre-production art is placeholder.As you can see. These thumbnails were just for exploration, meaning, I'm not committed to anything. All I know is that she is an Ionian who manipulates gravity. So I was keeping it very lose, not worrying about the art quality, and just focusing on finding unique shapes and elements.
If you guys have any questions about this, feel free to ask! I'll do my best to answer them all.

A little off subject, but you may want to think about re-hashing some of these designs, or selling the concepts. I love lots of them, and can see them repurposed as Zone of the Ender like mechs. Maybe that's just me. Any way, thanks for posting tumbs like this, it's inspiring and helps artists like me. Thank you!

Why did you not end up adding any of the cool floating things behind her. I think that would have made an awesome touch.

crazy idea, but it would have been cool if she was a mix of most of these and as the game progresses she changed from one to another e.g. E turns into F buy having the lower rings slowly rise up and form into one while her pieces around her head shifted over her face to form the mask and maybe each time she ups her ulty she goes from simplistic shifting designs to more complex and powerful ones. e.g. having form A last and while ulti is level 2 shifting from B & C ^^ though that sounds more like a super legendary skin.

in a production environment, how long do you have to concept? What are you deadlines like when you begin designing a character for Riot?

Think you should have based her off the 7 Modes of the Major scale since "Ionian" is the "Major" scale.

I would personally love to see some form of " Unleashed Syndra skin where she has no helmet on. Think that could be a future concept from you?

This would be cool as a main villain in a game who changes forms multiple times through out the game and then she hits her final form.

Just coming back here from time time to fawn over A, E, M and N. Especially ''A'' kind of reminds me of FF character design when Amano was still doing the artwork there.
I also really like the ones where it feels like she's sort of ''shackled'' at the feet even though I kinda associate her with ''breaking free'' from restrictions with her whole limitless potential thing.
I'd love it if you could post more of these ''character exploration'' sheets if you have em.

I love looking at these! But I also hate it because I love them, haha. I adore E and the dark variations in the middle row. She's a very neat character design :]
Played her very little during her free week a while back and didn't think I'd like the playstyle, but recently bought her; and among Zyra and Lux she's probably become one of my favorite spell casters.
