So THIS is where the Cid and Vincent pairing came from! O_O That explains everything!I can't help but feel something was lost in translation here...
Or not. I guess it's unavoidable because the statement can sound both right and wrong. Right in the fact that Vincent is simply suggesting that they should go to their respective rooms to retire for the night. Wrong in that if one chooses to disregard the "s" on the word "rooms," uh... you get the idea. 
Then again, after playing Final Fantasy VII and watching Advent Children and reading spoilers from Dirge of Cerberus (since I'll probably never play the game), you get an idea of the kind of person Vincent is. And from what I can tell, he doesn't seem like the kind of guy to do such a gesture as suggesting to a friend that they should get some sleep. I would've thought he'd be like "..." and just go to his room. I find it odd how he would just go and do that out of thin air. I figured he'd just let Cid just sleep right there in the chair. Why would he care whether or not a friend, much less a guy friend, ends up sleeping in an improper place to sleep?
Makes you wonder...And it's that same wonderment that's led to the CidxVincent fandom.
Oh, FFVII... How you amuse us with your open-ended cutscenes.Yes, this is an actual screenshot from Final Fantasy VII for the PC. I wish you the best of luck finding yourself a copy of the game.

It IS pretty weird for Vincent to just walk up to Cid like that. Different rooms or not, it's a friendly gesture.
AND there's also this little scene where Vincent calls Cid "Chief" for some weird unknown reason.
Vincent is not the type to come up with nicknames... Wonder why?

actualy i begun to like this pair because of that.

Well that's just creepy. I was thinking about this for a ficlet the other night and couldn't remember if it was Vincent or Cid that said "Lets go up to our rooms." Nor could I find it again... then your message pops up and leads me straight too it... *is weirded out*
Oh, I just had another idea... Reeve is very good at making robotic replicas of people (namely himself). And "Hey Cid," is something that Cait Sith might say (not Reeve though, well not in my vision of him). Soooo... what if it's a replica of Vincent, and follows Cid up to his room... could go so many ways. Especially playing with fanon instead of canon. As canon as FF7 gets...

Well, I was curious about how the whole VincentxCid fandom was conceived and I concluded from my findings that this particular scene from the game was what probably started it. I myself did not see it in that way at all; I was merely investigating the origin behind the fandom.

I may be biased for the couple, but as I understand it there is no differentiation between singular and plural nouns in Japanese. In fact, the Japanese word (heya) would have translated to just 'room' in English. So, you never know....
