Description
UNDER DA SEA!... it kinda sucks down here.I love mermaids, but you gotta figure living in the ocean has it's fair share of drawbacks. This one's in a bit of a tight spot, still she may yet get away. Sharks aren't exactly the smartest creatures in the ocean. Although, this one seems to have learned how to tie a bib.
I started this way back in July of last year in MyPaint. But when I picked up Manga Studio 5 a lot of my MyPaint work got shoved to the side. But recently I went back though my MyPaint folder to find anything I might want to finish and I found a few things. When I got back to this I ended up redrawing just about everything except the mermaid. Her foe was originally a giant penguin instead of a shark.
Drawn in "MyPaint" with my Intuos 4 tablet, Image editing in "GIMP", large text in "Inkscape".

Poor mermaid
Wouldn't merpeople have ways of dealing with sharks though?
Like humans with land predators, just stay out of their habitat... XD

Perhaps, but despite our best efforts even we humans occasionally run afoul of land predators... And sharks for that mater.Β Β

Hit the coral, he can only come at you straight on, and you can get the angle right if you're near rocks and be safe as houses. Β Meanwhile, you've got tools and can come up with something that will make anything in the ocean seek easier sushi.
The image is very funny.

That's using your head. And if all else fails, give it a swift punch on the snout.
Thanks for the compliment Β

Dolphins not only can outswim MOST of the the stuff that would like to eat them--they out-think nearly all of it. Β With the exceptions of their huge black and white cannibal cousins. o_o

Good thing I didn't put her up against an orca then. The thought did cross my mind.

I'm sorry, my pod is not in the same league as the Orcas. Β They'll have to play with... sharks! Yeah! SHARKS!

Β I imagine mermaids are big supporters of the shark fin soup industry. Β
