Description I FINALLY fixed it. After my scanner was broken or just plain not working for the past few months, I finally tried reinstalling the disc for the printer...and it worked. I didn't think my computer would be that good to me today. XD

But here's Miya Asama, a character from Sekirei, an anime I watched sometime over my vacation. It's good, even though the fanservice is a little ridiculous. I used a reference for this and it's not that good (partly because I have drawings on the pages behind it and it gets all smudgy looking. But I'll be uploading more soon!

Ah, yeah, you said you don't have a scanner, right? I can understand not wanting to take pictures of them, too, if that's the only other alternative. I know when I take photos with my camera they come out blurry and really bad quality.

XxXAshirii-senseiXxX In reply to zerosilver [2011-02-20 20:23:08 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I don't have a scanner. I also don't want to take pictures because they come out bad. So I just don't post my pictures.

Awww I can totally understand where you're coming from, though. I guess the best we can hope for is that someday you'll get a scanner (or a better quality camera XD) and be able to share your creations with the world! And in the meantime, it's a great opportunity to improve and surprise people.

Hehehe thanks~! I will do just that! My friends at school actually have me drawing people for them every week, so my homework grows.

No problem! Haha, I can imagine. People used to ask me to draw them things, but I've never been much of one for demands. So unless someone pays me, I don't do it. XD And no one ever pays me, so I never draw anything other than what I want, and the occasional request for someone on dA. Although, those have stopped coming in over past months, too, probably because it takes me so long.

Wow, thanks so much! I thought it would look a lot more messed up because it smudged so badly over the last month or two and all I had to edit with was an eraser on MSPaint. XD I'll get the rest up as soon as I can over the next week or so!

zerosilver In reply to lucyha [2011-02-21 02:29:23 +0000 UTC]

Hopefully they'll be a little less smudged since my friend gave me some advice on how to prevent the drawing on the next page from showing through to the one I'm trying to scan.

lucyha In reply to zerosilver [2011-02-21 02:30:33 +0000 UTC]

Cool! My scanner is terrible no matter what I do, I have to go over all the lines digitally.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zerosilver In reply to lucyha [2011-02-21 02:39:53 +0000 UTC]

I have no skill with digital lines whatsoever. XD It seems like as soon as I finish them, that's when I realize what I could've done better, or that I did them completely wrong. So I just prefer to stick with traditional, even if the scanner does make everything look different. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lucyha In reply to zerosilver [2011-02-21 02:42:36 +0000 UTC]

When I'm doing just plain lineart I prefer to use traditional, but when I plan on coloring something I go ahead and do it digitally, because I'm terrible with pencil crayons/markers/etc.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zerosilver In reply to lucyha [2011-02-21 02:46:22 +0000 UTC]

I don't color that often if I use references, so most of my drawings are uncolored. I've never been able to color digitally, though, so I just ink with a pen and use colored pencils to color. Even if it looks grainy and bad, it still looks better than what I'd have done with the digital stuff. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lucyha In reply to zerosilver [2011-02-21 18:09:43 +0000 UTC]

Your traditional stuff looks fine to me!
Yeah, but I have photoshop, which makes digital stuff a lot easier. I didn't do anything digitally either until I got it.

zerosilver In reply to lucyha [2011-02-21 18:14:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. ^^
I have some photo editing programs and I've got Paint.NET (neither of which I really know how to use). I'm not sure if those could help my drawings or not. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lucyha In reply to zerosilver [2011-02-21 23:38:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I can't really help you there... I don't know how to use any of that stuff either.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zerosilver In reply to lucyha [2011-02-22 00:08:50 +0000 UTC]

Haha, don't worry about it, I prefer traditional styles anyway. So even if I did know how to use those things well, I doubt I'd do it that much. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lucyha In reply to zerosilver [2011-02-22 00:10:30 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yeah, traditional works fine.

zerosilver In reply to lucyha [2011-02-22 00:19:59 +0000 UTC]

Yup. XD I'd still like to learn to color digitally, though. XD Maybe this summer I'll try to learn a little more about my programs.

oh wow!!
thats really nice!!

one thing of advice, is the outline of the hair, its a bit too thick, so i suggest you use a finer tip pencil when you draw the hair, and don't use that much pressure of it, in fact if you can barely see the line thats good!, you don't use mechanical right? so just sharpen your pencil alot when you get to the hair part ^^

zerosilver In reply to BlOOdLuSt16 [2011-02-20 16:56:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! ^^

Yeah, it looked a lot better before. The thing with this one is that the lines looked fine last month before I closed my sketchbook and the cover started rubbing all over it. Plus, there was a drawing behind this one that showed through the paper and it's so hard to edit that out when all you have is the MSPaint eraser. XD But I'll definitely keep that advice in mind (and you'll probably notice the same thing with some of the other drawings I'll be posting later--most of them still because of smudging more than a dull pencil)! ^^

BlOOdLuSt16 In reply to zerosilver [2011-02-20 21:03:26 +0000 UTC]

ooooh, i hate it when that happens!! thats why i don't use a sketchbook that much anymore ^^ but its nearly impossible to stop that from happening to a drawing now a days lol

i had that problem when i first started on DA, what i did was grab some regular paper(like computer printing paper) and put it behind the drawing before i scanned it in, then it was like there was nothing behind it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zerosilver In reply to BlOOdLuSt16 [2011-02-21 00:35:53 +0000 UTC]

I'd use computer paper or something if we had more of it. We buy it only for the computer, and now that I have so many papers to print all the time, we can't spare much. Plus, I just like keeping all of my drawings in one place so I know where they are. I'm not a very organized person.

That's a great idea! I can't believe I never thought of it before. XD I'll do that for the rest of them, though. Especially the Shanu one I drew last night, I was so happy with how it came out so it can NOT be smudged (though I inked it just to prevent that XD). Stock photos on dA work wonders. XD
