The Mapinguari is a mythical creature who lives in the Amazon Rainforest and it is described as a large, shaggy animal with big claws, one eye on the head and a mouth on the belly. Here is a more realistic version of this beast which I see as a giant land near Xenarthran close to the Mylodon (Yes, Mylodon not Megatherium, a larger Xenarthran who lived a little before it) and has small eyes, after white nose surrounded by a black band that can be mistaken for an eye, and a band and the belly may look like a mouth when the animal stands on its hind legs.

imagine these two things: male mapinguary had the eye and mouth patterns on them when the females we're bland-ish except the fact they have the iconic sloth-raccoon like mask, and the  mouth pattern actually had a pouch for younger mapinguary to go in

Pretty accurate to reports and the way the Mapinguari is described.

This looks very interesting and awesome.

I've always thought that the big dark wet nose of a giant sloth would be a great explanation for the "One big eye" reported for the Mapinguari but, the belly stripe is a great idea for the belly mouth! Good thinking!

At first, I've think about a Marsupial pouhce, but I came with the belly marking, because of the anteater.
Thank you by the way!

Great idea, that would explain it!

Thanks!
I guess that the Mapinguari is more likely based on observation of terrestrial Xenarthrans made by people a long time ago, but there is still a lot of species that are still (yes, this is a crappy pun) so...

Nose as the "eye" and coloured hair as "mouth"? XD
Damn, I had the same idea, too ages ago!

Me too I have this idea in my mind for years.

But last year, I changed the mouth-like hair into a marsupial pouche...
Yeah... But I kept the "eye"-nose in my version.

Heh, a funny thing is that I follow the opposite way, I first imagined a marsupial pouche, and I changed for the hair marking version.
