Hank McCoy led a very sheltered life as his mutation activated at a very young age compared to other who go through it at puberty and Hank's mutation activated when he was five. His body gained large muscles, elongated arms, and his feet became prehensile by resembling hands, just like a monkey. Hank had private tutors until his high school years when the McCoy family received a visit from Charles Xavier and told them of a school where Hank would be among people that wouldn't fear him, fellow mutants and he could expand his learning and work in the advanced labs on the school grounds. Hank would leap at the opportunity, but his parents took some convincing. After Hank brought up the pros of going to the school, his parents agreed and off he went to the Xavier Institute. It was like a whole new world opened to Hank and he met many mutants with altered bodies like himself, such as Maggot and Alistair, so he didn't stand out like he did at home.

Hank would eventually discover that Xavier was planning to create a secret team of covert mutants that would stop human or mutant plans to cause strife and further division between humans and mutants, named the X-Men. Hank was one candidate with his consent of course and the other two would be Warren Worthington III and Bobby Drake. Together the trio went on spying missions, strictly no violence, especially since was Bobby was in his teens and the only reason he was on missions was because of his Omega level mutant abilities. Soon Scott and Jean would join the X-Men and their capabilities of what missions they could handle greatly expanded into direct combat. To keep their identities a secret and make sure that their enemies couldn't find out who they were or where they lived, they wore masks, visors, and any other manner of concealment, as well as having codenames like Cyclops, Angel, Iceman and Beast (since all others suggested like Muscle, Bodybuilder, or Strong/Smart were lame). Their first full mission as a team took some effort to make them a team but Jean was able to mindlink everyone together for coordinated and effective team attacks and the X-Men emerged victorious.

For years, Hank would help the X-Men in secret and in the open, he would obtain multiple degrees and even work in the US Government for mutant human relations with the Department of Mutant Affairs. Hank was incredibly self conscious with so many eyes on him and tried to come up with a way to alter his appearance with shapeshifter DNA, most notably Mystique's. Hank seemed to develop a serum to make himself look normal, but the serum backfired and activated Hank's secondary mutation of gaining animal forms with blue appearances, the first one being a gorilla.

In the present Hank is working in the DMA to oppose any legislation to force mutants to register and working to see that all mutant agents in SHIELD and SWORD are being treated fairly. This job actually made it possible for him to meet his current "belle", Abigail Brand. She might want to not put any cutesy labels for what they are, but Hank knows deep down what they are. When the Sentinels are unleashed upon the world, Beast will have to join up with the X-Men again to help them stop the gargantuan robots and those who control them as well as the Brotherhood of Mutants. Jubilee wanted to give Hank's costume an update but Hank still liked his costume and defined it as a classic. He only tore off the sleeves and part of the pants as they made him heat up too fast with their inclusion and now he was more free to move without them.

Hank's Mutation: Genetic Atavism, has a modern-day caveman body but with superhuman intelligence. His mutation pushing his body into that of an ancient ancestor would have made an average mind go more savage and feral, so his brain power was boosted to compensate and to handle the extra muscle mass he gained. Superhuman Strength, Speed, Stamina,Durability, Agility, Reflexes and Dexterity. Heightened healing (not on Wolverine's level)
Secondary Mutation: Gives Hank animal features along with whatever host of abilities they possess but on a proportionate level to a mutant. Continuous transformation into other animal forms.
