You realize that musical is just an adaptation, not official Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde canon? It isn't only adaptation in the world which has given girlfriends to Jekyll and Hyde. We have many movies as a prove of that. Except the Burbank version, which was the most accurate adaption ever, and it's for kids. There was pretty lady in the park, and she was created just to troll audience.
The original book itself had lots of homosexual undertones between the characters, espcially Utterson and Jekyll (which made Stevenson's gay friends rage for understandable reason). There was no female characters at all. Utterson had a fear that Hyde might've been Jekyll's lover, and was using that to blackmail him.
Kim Newman has also adopted Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He has written a short story, which takes place in the alternative universe, where Jekyll and Hyde are two separated people and a gay couple. Its name is "Further Developments in the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."
But if this isn't your ship, I respect your opinion.

Oh dear, I was such a rude person two years ago. At least I didn't use any swear words.
Yes, yes, yes, I realize it. It just made me mad and confused back in the day, because it was beyond my understanding to ship a person with himself. And I didn't really like that people ship every two characters, who are sometimes nice to each other, and call them gay. Because these days deep friendship apparently doesn't exist. But now I don't really care about it. Let just people ship whatever they want.
To be honest, I've never heard about these adaptations or fictions you've mentioned, but I'll sure take a look at them!
Thank you for not being mad at my stupid younger "me". I wanted to hide the comment earlier, but I couldn't find it anymore so I was just hoping that no one will ever notice it. : D

Aren't we all immature in some point of our lives?
I watched Burbank's movie in YouTube. Phelous introduced me to it with his review, and he made me into Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I've always known the book exists and what it's about. I just haven't read it until now.
The short story I was talking about is in the book called "Unforgivable Stories." This book has many short stories: "Teddy Bear's Panic" also seems really interesting. There the communist revolution happened in the USA instead of Russia.
And you're welcome.

i remember reading this book. i thought the same thing. it didn't help that Mr. Utterson would throw the words 'gay' intercourse' and (only once) 'faggot'. i understand that those words meant different things back in the 1800s, but i couldn't help but laugh like a maniac when reading the book in school.

you did a great job with the art.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say the character in the 4th and 5th panels with light grey hair is Edward Hyde. Unless people are really cheeped out by kissing, then I would say it's totally PG. If somebody thinks it should be matured just because it's two men kissing... then they can just go fuck themselves.

I've never read the novella, so I don't know who the other characters are, but I can kinda guess at what's happening. I read in the Wikipedia article that the book was written as an allegory, not as a story. So I wonder what it would mean in a symbolic sense if this was an actual scene in the book?

THANK GOD I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO HAD THEIR GOGGLES ON!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously! Stevenson was reputed to make men fall in love with him often.

Whenever Jekyll referred to his "undignified pleasures" that he couldn't partake in at his older age but which were TOTES ok at Hyde's age:

SRSLY. There's sex involved there. And since Stevenson is so darn ambiguous about it It makes me lean towards relations with other men. I could be wrong. Maybe in Victorian society even mentioning heterosexual relations was EXTREMELY taboo. So much though that he couldn't. I don't find this to be the case in other novels from the period though soooooooo yeah. i picture Hyde going around to "red light" areas and soliciting men and going to seedy taverns and stuff doing, well, monstrous things (rape) since he IS unspeakably EVIL. (this isn't me gay-bashing, I'm pro LGBT rights. thought I'd clarify. It's the rape I'm against.)

This is what I would have thought if I were Mr. Utterson. I mean seriously. That dialogue is suggestive LIKE WHOA.

GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE.

Uhg. Now back to my report on the darned book. >:/

Heh heh. I totaly thought Jekyll was gay too. ^^ If you reread the beginning of chapter ten..... he is SO experimenting. I know this is just a joke and stuff but on sparknotes.com in a summary of this book it says that the author was hinting at the gayness in that pleasent victiorin way.
