This Image is in NO WAY insulting any other artists out there, this is just a way for me to express my feelings and opinions on a certain subject.Does anyone else notice how some irken artists have a funny style of irkens? like in the picture above? These irkens have boobs and curves and all sorts of human characteristics to seem sexy or pretty. I like to call these irkens "Anime Irkens".
The fact is... I both hate and love this style. I will elaborate.
The reason I HATE this style so much is that it's a mix. between something so sickenly popular... and a cartoon that had such a unique style on it's own. I mean, why combind it with Anime? in my opinion Anime is hardly ever drawn well either. i know some animes are like.. really good in quality, but GEEZ. why take that easy and unoriginal style and combind it to ZIM's style? It's degrating I think. to ruin such a style as awsome and unique and original as ZIM's. Besides, take a look at all the show. No female irkens ever have boobs. or curves. Boobs and curves are generally something that Humans are attracted to, right? So adding boobs and curves and other parts to irkens makes them more sexy? Perhaps more pretty or sexy to US HUMANS. but if Irkens were real, well, if they were also to love one another, they'd have their own personal ... stuff that makes irkens attractive to other irkens. it's a huge universe out there.
.. but I also love this style. alot. I mean, look at Vezie. she's so much prettier, to me. but then that falls under humans again, just cause she's got human qualities. Nothing at all bugs me about this style. everything is great, the eyes, the body, the hands... it's all great.I never really understood why people did draw like this before. having tried myself, I now know why. it's either for artistic beauty, or the artist's own appeal. and even now after this I'm still confused.
Please note, if you disagree with me, comment with INTELLEGENCE, k? I want to hear everyone's personal opinion on this subject. Again, I did NOT post this to insult ANYONE'S drawing styles, and if you happen to be offended, it was never my intention.
Now for stuff about the drawing, it's Vezie. she's in her new outfit TiB and I designed for her, and she's anime-fied. She's also very upset that I gave her boobs. hah. colored with pencils and inked with Micron and Zig Pens.

personally, i love the anime style, but i also believe fan characters need a majority of correctness here. though, i'm new to invader zim, suppose female irkens are simpl not drawn with such parrts because they are the size of earth children, maybe drawing them with boobs didnt make sense to the illustrators, or perhaps the small bodies were awkward to draw boobs on? its a speculation, but i'm pretty open to either side. what i find annoying though, is when people put stuff on irkens that they CAN'T have, like hair, or tails, or whatever. i'm a furry, but adding parts like that on an irken seems practically WRONG to me. part of this (like you mentioned) is human appeal, but adding those parts makes them practically not a real irken... i don't mean to offend anyone who has characters like this, i merely express my opinion.

I like the whole 'anime looking thing'. But I also like the Jhonen-style stuff. The thing is, i think that you should be able to do what you want with Jhonens characters.

yeah, now that i think about it, i like the jhonen style better. But the anime style, it's still nice.

Eh, I draw my Irkens kind of half-anime (becuase I couldn't figure out how to draw MYSELF Jhonen-style, long story...), I dunno how to describe it...

I actually have real trouble drawing these 'anime' irkens. I find it waaaay easier to draw the simple linear qualities of Jhonen's style.

I agree. That teen Titans is like an Anime spoof or something. o-O; but yeah, those anime/irken artists are there are very influential. It probably was unique and original for a while until others started doing it too.

..XD; I think I have close to the same feelings.. in a way. I like to draw female Irkens curvy because yes, I find curves and such other human characteristics to be attractive (at least in art sometimes. Real humans.. eh.) But I also see where you're coming from on the whole style of Zim an whatnot. Because JV has an awesome style all his own, and it seems to me a lot of people are like "JV STYLE TO HARD. ME DRAW ANIME!"

Uhm.. hmm.. anyways, I would say stuff about birthed Irkens instead of test-tube Irkens, but Sam and Jamie and probably other people have already covered this
All in all, very cute picture (dunno if that's what you were aiming for), and a good, mature way to voice your opinion on something *thumbs up* ^_^

I'm one of those "sick Irken artists," guilty for mixing the styles together, unfortunately. I see your point when you say it's degrading on Jhonen's original style, but I'm not personally out to destroy his style in any way. If anything, I respect that he has his own style for his work. Most of the Irkens I draw in that style are from a role play I play with two of my friends, and I guess it's nothing involved with the Invader ZIM storyline. I'm not saying it's not on planet Irk or anything, but we all have our own personal story behind it. Also, when I do draw like that, it's sort of like my own style, mixing in human qualities but also letting you notice that they are, indeed, Irkens. A lot of people don't like it, but it's just what I'm used to.
I can draw Jhonen's style if I wanted to, but I just decide not to...just to make things easier. x-x;;

o_O I don't think you're SICK for mixing those styles, no. I totally understand, I have a role play like that myself, my irkens all live on the massive and my friend's character is the tallest. I'm sure people would dislike that too.
but yeah I totally understand the "not tube born" thing, which i had never thought about before. That would be fairly interesting to role play about, huh?
I'm not trying to put down any mixed irken artists, no. By all means, if it's easier to draw irkens the way you do now, don't like some loser like me stop you. XD

i like both ways... i usually draw them the traditional way. I saw this a while ago and saw it again today and for some reason realized how dumb it was to not comment and not fav lol.

I suppose you could say my irken-style falls under this category of "anime irkens", yeah?
Truthfully, I can't really say when or why my style became like this, but as 13's appearance changed over the years, so did my ever-changing drawing style.
Yes, my female irkens all have breasts and some are rather curvey- But take into considoration that a lot of my irkens came from familes- Take 13 for example, who was born from a mother, so she obviously would have inherited the ability to carry a child of her own. Her body is not like that to make her "sexy", it has been, if anything, a curse to her up untill she escaped Black. Now that I come to think of it, almost all of my irkens have had a family at some point- so perhaps they have all come from a long line of irkens who are against tube-birth? If you think about it... Irkens had to come from SOMEWHERE and have bred at some-point, or... they wouldn't exhist, natural-born or not. Buuut hey, who knows? Guess that's just my way of interperating it...
Okay, yeah.. I'm done there... Though I guess I'm a little curious- I haven't heard from you in a while... so like.. is this why you don't comment on my stuff anymore? 'Cause my female irkens are "anime" or... whatever?
I dunno, guess this just makes me wonder... BUT, nevertheless, it's a good picture, and you brought up a good point.

You've got a good point there yourself though, I never thought of it that way. Making a story along the lines of anti-tube born irkens WOULD be rather interesting...

I don't draw JV style with boobs, it can't possibly work. If I draw them in anime and older, I add the human qualities, because it looks better to my critical eyes. I think JV style should be kept true to the original style, and let anime not mesh with it.

Lol...booby Irkens...XDD I like the style, but I just wish everybody would be more original anyway. I love the IZ style, and I love anime style, but everybody draws in those styles. Why not make your own? IZ had an original style, it really did and still does, but now everybody who's a major Vasquez fan seems to have taken his style to make characters in. It annoys me when I see so many people writing comics in what they call their own, original style and it looks like a direct rip-off of JCV's style. Argh.
Personally I don't believe in IZ romance anyway, since Irkens don't seem to really feel any sort of real affection towards each other. But that's my opinion, and I'm sure that big IZ romance fans will now pelt me with rotten food. *ducks*
All that aside, this picture is gorgeous! It really is, and you drew the common "IZ anime" style perfectly. XD The coloring is beautiful too. :3

Yeah, I totally agree. XD except I use the IZ style for my fan characters. but I think that's what I should do, otherwise I'd be takeing the IZ style, altering it a bit and calling it my own creation. I don't like it when people don't credit Invader ZIM for irkens or characters. I try to as often as I can. I didn't add it in here because it was someone else's style.... multipule reasons. hrm.. I hope I'm not confusing. XD Thanks for the comment!

I actually felt the same way too. At first I thought it was kind of sick to give them all those curves, especially when they aren't that way on the show. You'll notice that they do make some human females have breasts, but not female Irkens. I figured Irkens wouldn't have them at all, being from a completely different planet. But I was pretty weirded out when I saw all the curvy Irkens on DA. 
Anyhow, back on subject. There isn't anything 'wrong' with anime or curvy Irkens, but I think more people should draw them in the regular Zim style. It may be less attractive to some, but then again, who are we to judge what looks good, for a species that isn't even our own? Personally I think they look great without curves

I didn't mean to imply that drawing them that way was wrong, I actually love that style, but I just think the fact of adding curves and boobs to irkens is bad. If that makes any sense.

I love/hate the style too ... I did it for ONE of my pics, which I loved, but I can't stand the fact that I gave Tak such ... human qualitites XD so, at this point, my Irken art is some sort of CRAZY mix of my own style, *bleedman 's style, and the original style, mostly in the eyes (I find them to be the most important part of JV work

Curves are nice, but Irkens just wouldn't be the same. The only problem is that everyone has their own version of IZ so now it really doesn't matter XD. I think if it's what you like, then hey don't descriminate! Go for it
