Wow. This picture is not only beautiful-- color-wise, canon-wise, capturing-the-characters-wise, style and technique-wise-- but it also describes pretty much perfectly how I "friendhsip" Zim and Dib. I think that, even though Zim is one crazy alien who will never change his reactions to certain things, Dib (the cause of those certain things Zim must react to) is human and therefore will get bored and curious and want to try being nice every once in a while. I think Dib really doesn't hate Zim all that much, and after slowly realizing his plans never work, and looking back on all the adventures he and Zim had together, would give friendship a shot. He'd still, of course, try to expose Zim whenever he got the chance...but whenever that opportunity isn't present, he really doesn't mind just chilling and offering his chivalry to the only student who wouldn't call him names or hurt him because of it. Zim would think it's weird, like seen here, but Zim has already hurt Dib so much that...I don't know, anything less than the worst Zim can throw at Dib is actually a kindness. And why throw your worst when there's hardly any threat? I like to believe that Dib is numb to Zim's hate. He tries to ignore of kids' hate, but hate from Zim is never ignored-- it's a challenge. That might annoy most people, but in Dib's world of hate, it's really refreshing. Zim has given Dib a lot of maturity and adventure and...idk, just something different in his life. Something VERY different. Alien. And I couldn't blame him for wanting to appreciate this by protecting the only thing is his life different. Protect it from the rain.
