Description Yet another sketchpage!
Life drawing is so damn boring lately. Last time I tried transferring the model to 's Jediah haha (i hope you don't mind °-°)

The cuties at the top right are 's Cottonpears <3
She's currently doing some adoptables for them, so be sure to check them out!!

To everyone having done life drawing: what's a good time for you to draw the model?
We always go with "quick" 10 minutes at the beginning and later do 20-30 minutes per pose.

Oh wow, your sketches are every bit as endearing as your sculpture ^^ Personally 30 minutes almost feels too short for a detailed figure drawing, but then again I am very sloooooooooooooooooooooow ; ;

I really feel like pose length also depends on what sort of art you usually do/what you're studying for. My more animation-geared classes def focused on lots of 30-sec poses that slowly worked up to maybe 15 min max, emphasizing gestures and quick anatomy studies; while my illustration-geared (and fine arts, it was mixed major classes) sessions started with a few 90-sec poses and quickly worked up to one long pose, ranging from 15-90 min or more sometimes, emphasizing on rendering details and doing more in-depth study.

Honestly when it came to studying anatomy with life drawing, I felt like I benefited most from long lectures in my anatomy class that went over bones and major muscle groups, and then applied that knowledge through brief-ish life drawing, 5-10 min poses. Longer poses I really felt were best when learning to render details in drawings or paintings. Hope that all made sense!

i find it good to warm up with like 10 30-second poses, a few 1.5-2 min poses and then have the "long" poses be 5 minutes, 10 and 30 minute poses are all well and good but you gotta kinda slog through them and doing multiple ones next to each other kinda really sucks (also i can't imagine starting out with a 10 min pose??? bad)

some things to do if you get bored: change up your medium, use ink (as in a brush and ink) or pen or charcoal, hold your pencil differently, draw way bigger than usual, focus on different parts of drawing (like, getting the forms down, showing highlights and shadows, focusing on visual weight etc) i've done it a few times were we would just look at the model for 30 seconds and then do the rest without looking

Oh my now that's interesting! Thank you so much for your input!
I'm always kinda dying of boredom sitting through the 10-30 minute poses. We do them EVERY SINGLE TIME and nothing ever changes. When I'm done with my drawing after ~5 minutes I just draw the same thing over and over and try stylizing it.
The class is only 2 hours (because of train-issues I need to leave 30 minutes early, so for it's just 1 1/2 hours), so there's not really much time to get into drawing when there's only 4-6 poses - this is so annoying.

Sometimes when I want to change my medium the teacher just comes up and says stuff like "please use pencils ONLY because you learn the most this way!!". Well, I need the points of the class, so I just gotta stick through it I guess...

oh god that sounds terrible! no wonder you're so bored with life drawing! it also sounds like your teacher doesn't know what the hell they're doing, pencil is honestly the toughest to get anywhere with cause its so controlled (which also encourages bad habits of making things more formulaic which is exactly what life drawing is trying to push against).

given that you can't switch up media, to be less bored you could try:
-drawing with your non-dominant hand (takes longer, you have less control so it forces you to really pay attention)
-drawing with only the side of your pencil (forces you to prioritize things, also means you can't fit as much detail in)
-filling an area up with grey and then erasing light colors and emphasizing shadows (really helps with form, also generally looks real cool with not as much effort)

you could also do warmups on the way to class too? idk how much time/space you have there but you probably won't get people who stay still for longer than a minute and will also get more fun poses that way

do you at least get critiques?
