Although the last part of the name, sarus, translates to English as crocodile, Godzilla was actually an archosaur. These dominant reptiles rose to prominence in the middle Jurassic as gigantic apex predators. The long hind legs that would have allowed for a bipedal stance were once taken as a sign that Gojira was a form of very primitive abelisaur, although modern analysis places it more firmly within the Archosauria, this doesn’t include the fact that its large side outclasses the higher estimates for any animal of the abelisauridae family. The correct placement is based upon the four towed feet, the number of skull fenestra (holes) as well as the joints of the ankles.
Because the long hind legs were directly underneath the hips Godzilla was easily able to attain a bipedal stance. Unlike other members of its clade who would maintain a quadrupedal posture, Godzilla’s larger legs and tail mean it was able to remain bipedal for what some to presume indefinitely. Godzilla’s advanced bipedal posture allowed the animal to chase after prey over longer distances. With this greater vantage it was able to hunt a wider range of prey such as stegosaurs and sauropods . This high bite angle could explain why the archosaurs developed bony armour along their backs, particularly in herbivorous members such as as Anguirus.
Godzilla is so far the largest known carnivorous archosaurus. On its hindlegs it stood 35 meters tall on its hind legs it would have dwarfed all of the other known archosaurs and dinosaurs. This size in predatory animals would not be seen or matched even in other animal species like Allosaurus, Torvosaurus, and Saurophaganax, and Gorosaurus
Certain skeletal structures of Godzilla resembled those of later therapod dinosaurus like Ceratosaurus, and Majungasaurus. The skull had an elongated naris and an expanded antorbital fossa and orbit. The skull was more angular. Ornithosuchus retained the distinct notch in the jawline characteristic of all basal euarchosauriformes beginning with Proterosuchus. The pubis was greatly deepened, which would have expanded the torso. The hind lmbs were longer and less robust. The calcaneum developed a distinct process, a "heel" that curved posteriorly. The pedal elements were all longer with less difference between the medial and lateral element diameters. Godzilla is by far miracle of evolutionary biology
Current Observations of the live specimens
- Godzilla while roaming a radioactive element dubbed Godozzon
Symbol: Gz

Phase: a gas
Element group: group 18, p block
Discovered in April 27th 1998
Density: 4.9–5.3 g/cm3
Toxicity: Godzilla is the only biological organism this element has a role in.
It appears to have some kind of function in the blue beam the creature
Is able to produce which has been dubbed, “Atomic Breath”
- The current largest size estimate for Godzilla is found in this living specimen

Wow I love this design!
It works so much better than the 1998 Zilla, holding a much more realistic take Godzilla as it looks like an actual type of Abelisaurid while still being recognizable as Godzilla!

Thank you, in the design process Ceratosaurus and Majungasaurus were two dinosaurs I used and I’m happy its been really well revived,

I can definitely see the Majungasaurus in this, Ceratosaurus is more surprising but awesome nonetheless. It looks amazing

The ceratosaur influence is primarily in the hands and trying to give them descent proportions to the rest of the body.

Ah ok, now I definitely see it. Makes sense being that Majangs have unbelievably small arms

Would this be related to the real life Gojirasaurus?

No because
- in this world gojirasaurus was never discovered
- it’s actually Godzilla so they wouldn’t name an animal after one that is already in the fossil record
