My, my. Simplest way to describe this is: Sweet and Holy Celestia! I like how you incorporated both Snips and Snails into the picture, along with the Ursa. Love how you did the Ursa by the way. The way you made the nebular forms to look like fur, wow. Great detail as well. Is it me, or does that look like stylized wings on Trixie's cape? Well done there. Her whole outfit is amazing. Very well drawn. Pray tell, is this hand drawn? Either way, how long did it take you to make this? Would that be a giant pair of scissors as Snip's sword? Wow.

ill start with the reasons for the lower originality score before jumping into the fullness of the image itself.
yes the artwork and style is incredibly unique, but the characters are borrowed, as is the location (nothing is wrong with that but to give a perfect score on originality would be unfair.)
ok now for the reasons in the other scores as well as talking about the image itself.
the intricacies of this picture are many, and they are amazing
the dragon staff, the chain going to the ursa, the flowing hair in the wind, the GRASS, everything is so detailed and yet so subtle that is why the vision impact and technique are so high, yes each one has quite a bit of discussion topics
such as the contrast of the ursa with the orange sky, or the seriousness of the expressions in their faces (impact)
the technique is just so above par that i dont feel it needs addressed
and the vision is high because it shows imagination, in her character, in her desire for power, possibly being evil, i dont know, but this idea just seems fundamentally sound.
also the entire image just looks amazing in quite a few ways.

Okay to start off I'm gonna say this is fabulous. I think the use of shading and color really makes this piece beautiful. It took me a second to get the two ponies sandwiching Trixie, but once I did, I was laughing like crazy. The huge Ursa Minor (or major, not sure) Standing in the back adds a sort of feeling of good vs evil, since its all dark and just kinda evil looking, whereas Canterlot has a brighter, happier color scheme. I also gotta say, great sword. I love it. What really stood out to me when I first looked at this picture was Trixies staff. The lightning effects around it, plus the fine attention to detail make it, along with Trixie really stand out. I love this. Do more.

Wow.
Just, wow.
This is incredibly well done.
The representation of Trixie is amazing, her... well, "dress" and hat, are beautifully painted and detailled, her hair flowing in the wind is simply great, and the magic "bolts" are just perfect.
The Ursa Major is beautiful: the night sky "dans toute sa splendeur". (french for "in all its splendor")
What I didn't think was possible, and what you DID do, is make Snips and Snails look... mighty. Wonderful!
The cliff's look is very, very nice.
But ONE thing I got to mention is Canterlot in the background.
It's detailed in a way I couldn't even imagine. We can distinguish every single window of the buildings in the shade!
Details: 10/10, I say.
And finally, the evening sky.
The setting sun's light on the clouds makes me admire your work even more. It almost looks like a photoshopped PHOTOGRAPH.
Conclusion:
This is a masterpiece.
You can be proud of what you've done, because what I see is not a painting to be proud of, it's a bit of Pride itself.
Very, very, very well done!

Words can not describe this epic piece of pony-fandom. There just isn't any words to describe it at all, except "pure-epic-ness at it's fullest potential."
Like his rendering of Queen Chrysalis and her Swarm of Changelings, Ziom05 has created a My Little Pony: Friend Is Magic fan piece that is not only breath-taking, but astronomically beautiful beyond all comparison.
Even if I were to try and create a similar painting, mine would only be in cel-style coloring, as I've lost my soft-coloring skills over the years, and could never be able to top a masterpiece such as this.
The vision is 100% 5-star rating, as the vision is a MLP-lore with a Lord of the Rings & World of Warcraft twist.
Originality, I can only give 4.5 out of 5, as this is the kind of fantasy art we've all seen before, but because it is an original twist, it deserves more.
Technique is also 5, as no one, and I mean NO ONE, can surpass this, unless it were to have more characters, and even more depth and scale.
Impact is 5 by 5, as the "wow-ness" of this piece makes it all the more better and interesting to look at.
This piece is a MUST BUY PRINT for those would want to have a deviation as a portrait in their home, and must buy print for that little brony in all of us.
A fantastic and wonderful job this is. =3

I can barely even figure out where to start with this, so I suppose the most logical place is my first impressions.
First Impressions
When I first saw this piece, I was taken aback by the sheer scale of it, not only spatially, but with the implied story, as well. Here we see Trixie, Snips, and Snails under the looming presence of an Ursa Minor, a clear callback to the Boast Busters episode. This said, the painting strays from the episode when we see them looking off a cliff perpendicular to a very highly detailed Canterlot, which might be a reference to the crowded, detailed Japanese depictions of fantasy cities, such as New Pork City from the Earthbound series. I also notice that the artist omits the cutie marks in favor of showing each pony's purpose with clothing: Trixie is a mage, perhaps much older as indicated by her white hair, Snails appears to be a nomad and Snips a dwarf guard, both having joined Trixie as guards. I also must say that I love the inclusion of what look like weapons-grade scissors in Snips' side holster.
What follows are explanations for my star ratings. Within these, you may notice that I fail to mention the Ursa Minor. This is simply because I don't know what to think of it. It seems out-of-place from a story perspective, and my only explanation is that she once decided to tame one and keep it as a pet or something similar.
Vision
The artist's inspiration is apparent, here. He was obviously emotionally driven to paint this, and this emotion shows in every last pixel. The amazing part of this is that you can tell, by the ponies' gazes, what they've just been through and what they expect. You can see in their eyes that they trust eachother, and that they have just gone through something rather trying, but must press on for some unknown cause. Trixie is the most unfazed, probably due to her age, while her guards are only just now getting used to such experiences. Such powerful imagery captures me.
Originality
Though obviously influenced by modern fantasy RPGs' art direction, such as World of Warcraft, the originality of the piece is still obvious. As I describe in mt section on the Impact of the piece, I have seen many pieces which have captured my interest, and even a few which deserved my respect in my Awesome collection. This, however, stands out, as I have never seen a piece which shows show characters in such a fantasy setting whilst still being in-character, especially not one which does so in a single frame.
Technique
The technique used for this image is the perfect one for the subject matter; nothing else but oil paint can capture such dynamic colors and textures, and this is coming from a person who is a professed 3D imaging advocate. If I were to attempt to recreate this in a 3D environment, it would take me years to get such a look, and even then I wouldn't be able to capture the pure fantasy feeling of this scene.
Impact
In all my experience with the deviantART and brony communities, I've seen well over 2000 high-quality images, and countless speed-drawn ones for humor's sake. This said, none until now have driven me to write a critique, let alone such an extensive one. This piece is so very powerful that I am actually considering buying a print of it, if only it were available.
This piece speaks to me as an adventurer and artist, and I find myself wishing even to join her on her quest, whatever it may be.

Since becoming a brony it has never ceased to amaze me how talented the fan base is. As such this is an incredible piece of art. Just the visuals alone tell a tale that we all expect to happen. The foreground is incredibly rich and detailed, while the background has many details as well.
This piece also captures what each character would most likely become after the episode. Trixie learning from here past of lying trains and eventually becomes able to handle what she said she could.
Snails and Snips becoming her guards or companions and helping her on her path.
But the question comes up is this a path of redemption or revenge?

I'm not gonna lie, before becoming a brony, I'd only seen G2 and thought MLP was stupid. However, I've never regretted joining the fandom and this GORGEOUSΒ portrait reminds me of that fact. The detail.Β Always the detail, small things add up to a greater story. Such as the fact that Snips has a sword like weapon with a hilt like a pair of scissors.Β I love this image, the idea that Trixie finally become as powerful as she boasted, with her sycophants having become loyal companions.Β Snips & Snails always looked a bit pathetic, but here the artist have managed to show them as mature warriors while still keeping their features so you can recognise them.
