there's the progressive which is the author spent more time on each floor of Aincrad (much of the beginning of the anime comes from Progressive). the original is a huge time skip. the first time you meet Asuna in the Original is when he went like, I'VE FOUND MY CHEF!! (for the Ragout Rabbit meat) but then in the progressive it's the part with the first boss.Β

Argo isn't a huge character (in fact you never learn her name) in the anime. but in the Light novel, she's huge. she's the cat girl that appeared like for 1 minute in the Christmas part of the anime talking to Kirito when he was sitting on the bench which was when he heard about that rare monster drop.Β
if you scroll to: "material editions" (right above SAO Progressive - Progressive is kinda incomplete) ME7-ME9 is most of Progressive...since you know the entire plot of SAO-Aincrad, it doesn't matter when you read those..you can always just figure out where they go when you read it.
