He gets up,Running to his over-zealous parents.
They call his mess a "masterpiece".
And bask in his childish brilliance.
She watched as their backs recede,
Heading home.
The sun lays gentle kisses on her skin,
Making it glitter like chrome.
At first they're small pecks,
On her back and face.
Then, minutes later, her epidermis is set ablaze,
Making her eyes blur and her mind race.
She screams for her kin,
Her cousins.
The puddles, streams, rivers, seas,
And oceans.
But her brethren can't see her,
Let alone hear her wails.
Her yells transform into hoarse sobs,
As though her hurricane of a voice is being downgraded to multiple gales.
The sun melts her and everything she is,
Everything she's worked for and achieved.
Yet when she thinks of her long trip back home,
She's relieved.
So,
Instead of fighting gravity,
She inches off the sidewalk,
And onto her previously-thought tragedy.
The rain, sleet,
Hail, and snow.
Every one of them,
She came to very well know.
She'll be leaving behind,
Friends she loves so dearly.
Yet she'll find a life she missed,
Which has made her so dreary.
A smile lifts her features,
As she turns to the sky.
"My heart has been melted.
Melted just enough to get by."
