I'm working on getting better at this painting sceneries thing. Had loads of fun with this one, tried to push it more than I usually do
EDIT: Changed the direction and look of the front tree and some other small things, hope the composition works better this way!

Its a shame this isn't a flash file or something if you could add audio. just the whistling of the wind and the eerie creepy noises of the forest playing over the slow sound of horse hooves thudding along. Β It would really play along with this long solitary ride.
(you could also have a giant monster just pass through the forest in the backdrop, towering over the tree tops but not really stopping to care about the scene. It would probably make it worse but I would enjoy it haha.)

Loving your style in this and all the repeating patterns and forms. Your texture variations feel really nice, how you have the smooth painterly feel overall and then the rougher brushes for the trees and mountains in the background. The composition is pretty confusing though, with the tree in the middle tilting at almost the same tilt as the pathway, and the house and pathway are at a strange perspective and angle compared to the foreground area on the right. The tree in the middle is cutting the composition in half awkwardly, which makes it confusing to follow the path my eyes want to follow behind it. Also, you have a lot of nice contrast in the details of each object, but some things like the tree in the foreground should have less contrast overall, because the bright areas on them are so intense compared to the dark ones that it looks like several different objects at first. Overall though, really nice piece, lovely atmosphere and level of detail in your style. Keep going! 8D

I edited the painting and tried to keep the stuff you wrote in mind, agree that the composition felt off, but I didn't want to remove the front tree so I tried changing the direction and look of it. Hope it worked somewhat! Thanks a lot

Looks like your work is paying off!Β I'm especially loving the way you handled the depth in the trees.Β The lit parts are carefully textured and rounded, but the branches in shadow are flat black.Β That's a touch balance to pull off
