Thank you for sharing this.

Being sober myself, I cannot agree more. With skills I also meant the ability to get a point across without having to incur into, well, the scum of our world. I guess this concept was a bit forced, because ATG prompt deadline and what not.

I'll make sure to keep this in mind for future stuff. Though I'll have to admit I have a couple ideas that demand it, I'll try to avoid it when it's not the case, such as here.

If you want to abstain from drawing this sort of thing because you sincerely want to, then that's pretty cool. You don't have to impress me.

Maybe he just doesn't get enough sleep.

My headcanon is that, since he is basically the image of the Wonderbolts (autographs/posters Spitfire signs), and their insignia is exactly the same as his cutie mark (maybe animators were lazy?) which he and only he wears while the others (Spitfire included) simply wear the bolt without wings - which I didn't fix cause I like it as it is - tells me that he might in fact be the founder of the wonderbolts.

As to why Spitfire is the captain, who knows. Maybe Soarin is retired, or he doesn't have the spare time anymore because of his probable military career? Since most real-life aerial show teams use combat aircrafts and the such.
