Description Mina was working in the great library for a year. That was a good job, in direct contact with the oldest books in the capital. Those books represented all her life.
The library was frequented by a lot of professors and researchers. They shared her everyday, working in the reading room where Mina was taking care of the books. That was the good part of her work. They were some handsome guys among all the young researchers. In particular one. Mina never knew what he was studying. In fact, he was always asking for books of a wide variety of fields. On day that was some anthology of antic poetry, the day after, that was a book about the medicinals plants or the history of some forgotten tribes from distant islands.
He came one time or two a week with his particular requests, bringing with him a piece of his personnal researches or some copies of scrolls found in other libraries.
In each case, the books were every time buried in the reserve or piled in the highest shelves of the immense bookcases of the reading room.
His visits weren't always regular and sometimes, when he had not come and, the daywork was close to its end, Mina intentionally took her time in a vain hope to see him coming before the closing of her reading room.

That was one of those evenings. He didn't came. Mina had proposed to close the all library herself, letting her colleagues leaving the work earlier.
Since this mysterious man was visiting herself, she was paying attention to herself, her hair, her clothes. Not that she didn't do it before. But that was quite different nowadays. Minutes passed. She was alone this night in the great library, beginning to feel herself stupid of waiting for this man half an hour after the official closure ot the places. She was walking around the different rooms, storing a book that drags on the tables or pushing a chair out of order. The only noise in the empty building was the regular sound of her high heels taping on the floor.

"Another minute and I'm going."

One minute passed and another one or two...

"I go, now."

As Mina was taking the direction of her office, she heared another noise from the great entry.
She walked to the hall by pressing the pace. That was him ! From behind the glass door of the hall. What a smile !

She let him entry. He was very busy with one or two bags and a suitcase.

"I am close to the point ! After all this time, We did it !" he said enthusiastic.

"What have we do ?" she said a bit confused.

"I'll show you ! Can we... ? Yes, in the reading room. There is one manuscript I need to see one last time."

They both turned on again the lights of the room, he unpacking a big folder as she was climbing the shelves of the bookcase on the ladder.

She found this particular book and brought it to him. Then, he began to explained all his demonstration. Thanks to this book, all the elements were limpid now. Mina was listening but his great theory hadn't all her attention. There was this special connection with him, she already felt another days before. The numbers, the references and the names flashed. She lost herself in his blue gray eyes. As she was coming back to her minds, she found herself very clos to him, his hand on her delicate wrist pointing a tiny point on a map yellowed by the time. And then his voice was silent. Both remained frozen.

Mina felt she was getting blushed. He removed his hand.

"That's great, she said. I mean, really great, I'm sure... You, you must be proud."

"Oh no, I mean yes, yeah. That was... an illumination."

Both were disctinctly uncomfortable. Mina closed the manuscript and took it with her.

"I... I could never have succeeded without you. Really." he said, gathering all his papers.

"That was a luck, you were still there. Thanks to you, I'll be able to present my work finished tomorrow. I have a train in twenty minutes."

Mina, smiled timidly.

"So, this is the end of our night searches ?" she asked with a bit of irony and sadness in the voice.

"Yeah, it is in fact... Tomorrow its my great oral in front of all the professors and after tomorrow, my first day as a professor in Mensula university."

"Oh, Mensula... I mean this is great, yes." she replied. "And so far of the capital too," she thought herself.

She began to shiver but tried to show nothing of it.

"I was supposed to finish my work months ago, but my directors gave me a delay..." he said, storing his stuff in one of his bags on the desk.

Mina climbed the first echelons of the ladder with the manuscript, silent.

"I don't know why I take so long to understand. To be honest, I just found what I've always been looking for today. That was clear in my mind. I needed to come here one last time to be sure..."

At this moment, Mina mistepped and one of her black high heels fell of. The pump hit the ground in a little thump. The librarian gave a look to her shoe below and stored the manuscript to its place on the shelf.

As she was going down carefully, her fellow picked up the shoe and contemplated it. That was a gorgeous high heel, black but bright, brand new. He put it on the desk.
He helped Mina to descend the last level and she misstepped another time. But he catched her up and they finished embraced.

At the same time, someone came. That was the night watchman who was edgy to find lights and peoples in the library several hours after the closure. That was an imposing guy with a big mustache. He ordered the student to follow him. The searcher quickly packed his last papers in his file. Mina gave him his suitcase. The high heel was lying on the desk. The young man gently grasped it.

"Hurry, sir !" said the guardian.

"You should go now. Your train..." added Mina, smiling tenderly.

"Oh yes, the, the train," replied the man, the shoe in hand. Yes of course.

He put the heel in his pocket and took his bags to follow the watchman.

"I... I could return in the capital one day or another... To visit you, I mean," he declared timidely.

Before she could answer, the young man was pulled by the arm by the watchman and dragged to the exit.

Mina smiled pensively before laughing of joy. She took a step and another in her lonely shoe around the reading room, turning off the lights. The librarian closed for good the room and walked on the tiptoes of her shoeless foot to the car park.

Who know when she would recover her shoe.
