Description da Vinci (Belgian Shepherd, Tervuren) doing what he likes the most, keeping an eye on the field and road, who knows when we might get uninvited guests, like wild animals or strangers.

We have a Terv as well, Bandit, he's about the same age as da Vinci, litte bit younger, 1.4 years old. Truly a magnificent breed Β ponygirl0316.deviantart.com/ar… Β  Β Β ponygirl0316.deviantart.com/ar…

Wow nice! Lovely name on a lovely dog, so pretty! And I agree with you, awesome breed. Do you like being an owner to a terv? I love it, but must admit that they sure can be challenging dogs, they're not that easy to handle sometimes.Β

Thank you! and yes, it's certainly a joy, even if it is a challenge, he showed us over and over how smart he was, we had to make additions to our fence to make them 6ft tall, so he wouldn't go visiting the neighbors' dogs XDΒ

But he's a big loveable fluff ball, loves his people, and his goofy antics, especially around water or snow,Β are entertaining

But it's definitely amazing to see how quickly he picks things up.

Haha, yes they are so smart and they are aware of it too, absolutely. And very loyal to the family, my terv isn't too interested in people we don't know, but he loves his family.

Aww, sounds like da Vinci! β™₯ My terv is a working line and he sure loves to work, he needs it to not be a pain in the ass, haha. Do you train something? We do train tracking, agility and obedience, and of course small things like trying to find lost items, him pulling me on bicycle etc. he LOVES to do things, it's amazing to see him work.

Haha Awesome

He can also be a butt if he hasn't gotten to run around outside, usually he can get a fair amount of running done himself from running from his buddy that lives behind us, to the one that lives beside us, and we trow his chewed up frisbee for him, or another toy, for quite a while until we get tired--because he is of course not tired and wants more XD and he gets walks almost every day.

And yes, we train him in obedience, and he just started doing some agility, though he was introduced to the tunnel and a young puppy and it quickly became his favorite "toy", he used it as a "portal" to go around the corner of one of our gardens and green house (my dad used to grow plants and sell them, like an annual garage sale, except plants), most of the time he couldn't go from the front portion of the back yard to the other without going through it, and sometimes he would lay down in the middle or at one ends of it. Yes, definitely amazing to see him work, and how much he loves it

Sounds awesome Haha and I totally know that feeling when you get tired, but the dog just wants more! I throw ball or let him pull me on the bike for about 10 km, and nope, he won't get tired. Or if he does, he rests for a while and then he's ready for more! The only way I can make him tired is by letting him work with his brain and nose, tracking is great! And searching for lost toys and stuff outdoors, makes him so happy and tired.Β

Haha! Clever boy. And it sure is, I agree with you. And the breed is just wow, I definitely don't regret that I did buy a Belgian, it was between Belgians and GSD, but Belgians are so much more fun, they are such loyal, intelligent, alert and funny dogs. Yes, I really love the breed as you can see.

Oh cool, what you do with him sounds fun!

Haha, yea, technically he is my dad's dog, so i didn't buy him, but i definitely don't regret helping him pick one out! I'm the animal person of the family, and know much more about animals than he does, so i assisted him with choosing one with the right personality for what we wanted to do, which is mainly obedience.

I'm really starting to love the breed as well! Knew of them my whole life, as they're my dad's favorite breed and he has two many years ago, before I or my older brother were born, and i was used to it, so it came as a sortof shock at first when people didn't know what breed he was or hadn't heard of it, as tervs are farily uncommon where we live. But the weather here is better for them, with their longer coats, cooler, we're in the northern part of the U.S, and our state is known for it's winters. XD

Zolfyer In reply to ponygirl0316 [2014-07-20 11:08:27 +0000 UTC]

It is my moms favorite breed too, it was she who told me about it from the beginning, and it just felt right. And still feels right! Aww, their fur is really great at winter, I live in Sweden and we have cold winters too, and it's da Vincis favorite season, no doubt about it. He would love to sleep outdoors if it was possible. And playing in snow is so fun!Β

He's kinda tired and unhappy now when it's so hot, and I guess I would be too, if I had a fur like that. And he's a working line, which means he even doesn't have that fluffy fur as they usually have. Can't imagine how it's for tervs which are fluffier. (Most people actually don't even recognize his breed because of his shorter fur, even though tervs are kinda popular here in scandinavia. They usually think he's a German Shepherd or a mix. )

ponygirl0316 In reply to Zolfyer [2014-07-21 00:13:14 +0000 UTC]

Oh yea, Bandit loves the winter for sure, we could leave him outside for an extended period of time, unlike with our little terrier who doesn't like winter at all, and he could be just relaxing in the snow enjoying the cool Β
Or he's running through the snow, he likes to eat it quite a bit, and stick is face in it too xD

Bandit has his own little tub of water, Β to help him keep cool, he used to have a baby pool until he chewed holes in the bottom, when he got bored outside this spring, and the tub has thicker plastic if he decided to chew on it, and it's just big enough for him to lie down in Β ( i think it's kinda funny/ cute when he does that:Β fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/201… )

And oh yea, here, since they're more uncommon, he's almost always mistaken for a GSD or a mix. But usually those who are more involved with dogs and showing know his breed.

Yeah, terriers usually prefer when it's warm and cozy, at least my terrier is like that. Β

Oh, I can think that he enjoys it a lot! How cute he is in that picture! Pools/tubs sure are great for dogs when it's hot. I usually take da Vinci to the river that's near us, he loves being there. Goes all wild and crazy in the mud and water, haha.

Yes, same here too, dog people usually does guess his breed correct.

Yea, they seem to

Yea and oh that sounds fun, We took Bandit to a lake once when he was a puppy and that was just getting him to swim, more so teaching him about the water. and another time we took him to a lake when he was much bigger, he ran up and down the shoreline in the shallows, chasing the waves, and we even got him to fetch a few sticks out of the water

Zolfyer In reply to ponygirl0316 [2014-07-23 09:07:05 +0000 UTC]

Aww, must have looked adorable. da Vinci enjoys swimming, he learned to swim this summer, last summer he was a bit too afraid to go in the water, but now he really enjoys it. And of course playing in the water, attacking the waves etc, looks so funny.

ponygirl0316 In reply to Zolfyer [2014-07-24 19:49:38 +0000 UTC]

Yes it did!

And i'm not sure if Bandit was ever really afraid of water, we took him to a lake for the first time when he was a really young puppy, and encouraged him to go in, and he went in just up to his chest. Β So he's been to the lake a few times since he was really young.

It does look very funny

Thank you! And he may look skinny, but that's probably because he's a young belgian shepherd, they have a thin and light body, he's at healthy weight too, but he does not have as fluffy fur as other tervurens because he's a working type, so he looks skinnier than those I guess.
