Oh my god. You know what I just realised? Remember what he said when you're fighting him? "Cry into the darkness. Mommy. Daddy. Somebody help. See what good it does you."

That were probably the exact same thing he did when he first turned into a flower.

hellspawnz In reply to kayanne21 [2016-07-22 08:00:40 +0000 UTC]

it is. he tells you in genocide in place of the story of asriel and chara you usually hear. he woke up in the garden, screaming and crying for help, terrified that he couldn't feel his limbs.

asgore found him. he explained what happened, and flowey tried to live normally. but, with no soul, he quickly realized that the only emotions he could feel were rage and terror. can't feel love, sorrow or joy. and he tried to feel them, living with both asgore and toriel. nothing worked, so he became suicidal. the second before he died, he felt a flash of dread, "if you don't have a soul, what happens when you....?"

and he woke up in the garden. he'd learned he could save, and the garden is his original save point, like the bed of flowers for frisk. as long as he refuses to die, he could go back. so he did.

again. and again. over and over. like he says "i've befriended everyone, i've murdered everyone. i've won every game, i've lost every game. i've read every book, i've burned every book." the one thing he never managed was getting asgore to reveal the human souls. he's even beaten sans, multiple times.

flowey knows everything that can, could, did and will happen in the underground. so he sat there, going mad with his omniscient knowledge, digging himself deeper into his nihilism. until finally, an unknown amount of time later, something new finally happened, something flowey could have fun with again.

you tripped down a big hole into the underground.

flowey's is not a happy story. not from the start, not at the end. because the only known ending to flowey's story is a god from another dimension erases his happy ending and drags everyone back into the game, then murders him brutally.Β

And we just leave him there....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellspawnz In reply to kayanne21 [2016-07-22 12:56:35 +0000 UTC]

let's take the best possible ending, yellow-name true pacifist. he can't stay as asriel, because he returns all the stolen souls, and without a perfect storm can't steal them again. so he has to revert to flowey, and he knows this. along with that, he's trapped underground, for the moment at least, because he has to burrow to move and there's no easy way out doing that.

so what we're left with is flowey abandoned in the remains of the underground monster kingdom, fighting his nature for as long as he can out of respect for both frisk and asriel. this is his happy ending.

it's a little worse than abandoning him. asriel begs you to abandon him, because he's going to become flowey again once the lingering soul energy runs low. and like flowey says on the true reset screen, he's satisfied for the moment.

and remember, flowey is still a monster who has attempted to kill more than one human and eat their soul, so don't feel too bad for him.

if a person changes and has a different body, a different personality, different desires and a different soul (in flowey's case, simply because he lacks one), would you call that person the same as who they were before? flowey is not asriel. they have the same knowledge, they are not the same person.

Are you willing to say that it wasn't Asriel who was crying, begging Chara not to kill him at the end of the Genocide run. It was his face and voice on the flower body at that time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellspawnz In reply to crazyman5291 [2016-12-01 02:05:25 +0000 UTC]

yes, i am. to quote flowey, "that is your soul, the culmination of your being". culmination basically means "apex" or "core".

so if the core of your being is gone, you are not the same person. flowey is soulless.

flowey is a surface flower with asriel's memories and a will to live. he's scared to die and was hoping that chara would show mercy to asriel, if not to flowey. so he put on asriel's face and voice. and he may THINK he's asriel, but he doesn't have asriel's soul. which means he's not asriel.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

crazyman5291 In reply to hellspawnz [2017-02-22 00:08:18 +0000 UTC]

(I know it's been months, but I just found something interesting, and I'm still passionate enough so whether you reply or not is up to you.)

In any case, I looked up the word "culmination" in the dictionary and it does mean 'apex', but it does not mean 'core'.Β

Link: www.thesaurus.com/browse/culmi…

This changes everything, because Undertale stated that a monster's essence enters the object it dies on, but a monster's soul disappears. The soul is the culmination of their being, synonymous to one's aura, but a monster's being isn't limited to their soul.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellspawnz In reply to crazyman5291 [2017-02-23 03:06:33 +0000 UTC]

i agree that a monster's being isn't limited to their soul, because if that were true, flowey couldn't have asriel's memories since asriel's soul vanished. but the soul is the core of a monster's being, since once the soul is gone, the monster collapses into dust. that may not hold true for humans (which would explain chara) and certainly isn't true for flowey, but it is true for monsters.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crazyman5291 In reply to hellspawnz [2017-02-23 22:13:56 +0000 UTC]

But the soul is not the core of the monster's being. It's the culmination. Before, you said that flowey wasn't Asriel, and that it was a separate entity who thinks he's Asriel. But a monster's essence enters the object they die on (essence and being are the same thing). Asriel's soul disappeared when he died, but Asriel's being is not limited to their soul as we just agreed on. His soul is gone, but his essence/being is in Flowey, therefore, Flowey is Asriel (Or rather, Asriel is in a flower's body).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellspawnz In reply to crazyman5291 [2017-02-24 20:40:20 +0000 UTC]

here's the problem with that. if the soul wasn't the core of a monster, they wouldn't fade to dust when their soul was removed. the soul is very important for a monster.

here's how this would have worked, the flower that would become flowey grew from a seed carried through the barrier by asriel when he returned. when asriel died, his dust spread over the garden, planting the seed and imprinting asriel on the flowers (monster dust is spread over items so the monster's memory lives on, same thing happened here).

so, this tells us two things, 1: any object imprintes by monster dust and given a will to live can become a flowey, 2: every flower in asgore's garden is potentially a flowey.

so, if you have an entire army of copies of a dead person, which one's the original? they're all alive, but only one has determination.

the original asriel was the one that had his soul. flowey is a clone, able to remake asriel though god-like power.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crazyman5291 In reply to hellspawnz [2017-02-24 21:22:26 +0000 UTC]

But what I'm saying is, in Undertale's world, an individual's being is the core of their soul. Their essence/being manifests their soul. (Everything else you said I still need to ponder)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellspawnz In reply to crazyman5291 [2017-02-25 05:12:15 +0000 UTC]

yes, but in the case of monsters, their soul seems to come pre-loaded with a few things, such as being "made of compassion", so monsters will be unique, but have some traits in common. but the soul is still the core of the being, and while it may change as the monster grows, that's because the monster changed.

without the soul, all that's left is the data that was used to make the soul. having the blueprint for asriel doesn't mean you have asriel. flowey is a walking blueprint that can remake asriel with enough power, but he's not the original.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crazyman5291 In reply to hellspawnz [2017-02-25 20:23:31 +0000 UTC]

But where did the blueprint come from? Who designed it? Compassion is something that you can practice. If the monsters are made out of compassion, then they are actively practicing it. Compassion is a choice; choice is will; wouldn't that mean that the blueprint is their will? Where does the will come from?

I'm recognizing that there may be no end to how deep we can go here. Thought Question: What will determine which one of us is right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellspawnz In reply to crazyman5291 [2017-02-26 00:02:19 +0000 UTC]

monsters are living beings. they create their own blueprints, with parts that are from their parents and those around them.

and that depends on what point you're trying to argue. if you're trying to argue that flowey is the original asriel, then you admitting he probably isn't means i win. which doesn't mean it's the end of the conversation, just the end of an argument. the end of the conversation comes when we run out of topics or get bored.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crazyman5291 In reply to hellspawnz [2017-02-26 00:23:55 +0000 UTC]

I still think he's the original Asriel. Until I'm given proof for or against, I will continue to believe so. The only thing is that this argument is currently taking us down a rabbit hole. This rabbit hole either has no bottom, or the bottom is too deep for us to see. The bottom would be if we reach the truth. I'm still willing to delve deeper, but I don't know how deep you're willing to go. Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellspawnz In reply to crazyman5291 [2017-02-26 00:49:55 +0000 UTC]

at some point, we're going to hit stuff that's entirely subjective since at this point we're debating the nature of being. i'm willing to go pretty deep in that.

crazyman5291 In reply to hellspawnz [2017-03-16 03:08:41 +0000 UTC]

I'm back. I'm going to hit you with some thought-provoking questions.

When fighting Asriel Dreemurr, what was it that re-fused the soul every time you were about to die?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellspawnz In reply to crazyman5291 [2017-03-17 22:51:21 +0000 UTC]

the substance that remade the soul? determination.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crazyman5291 In reply to hellspawnz [2017-03-18 21:26:45 +0000 UTC]

Alright.

The game said "But it refused" whenever that occurred. This phrase has three meanings that I can see, and is up to interpretation.

1. The soul literally re-fused, as I proposed in the question. Your answer was that it was determination, therefore, determination re-fused the soul. "it refused" in this context means that 'it' refers to the soul.

2. The next meaning is that the soul refused to get destroyed. Refused in this sense is the actual one word, just as we take the phrase at face value: "But it refused".

3. This meaning, however, is that 'it refused' death. Normally, you would die. "But it refused" would you consider 'it' to be the soul in this case? Can souls die?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellspawnz In reply to crazyman5291 [2017-03-19 06:39:45 +0000 UTC]

you ready for me to blow you away? every time you say "my brain", you're speaking in the third person. you are your brain, there is no distinction. this is why brain death is lethal, but everything else can be killed or replaced and you're fine.

the soul IS you. so the soul dies, you die. we know that because "the soul is the culmination of your being", meaning your soul is unique and it is you. yes, flowey blurs that (so does chara), but flowey is an abomination, unique and the result of the only ever human-monster fusion, so we don't know what rules he plays by.Β

so, for the first definition, it "re-fused". it just means your determination dragged the soul back into one piece.

second one, "refused to be destroyed", yes, it did. because you did. you kept your will to stay alive, your resolve to change fate, intact and refused to be destroyed.

third, "refused to die". well, yes. that's what determination is. "why won't you die" personified.Β

so the "it" is your soul, with either chara explaining or frisk speaking in the third person.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crazyman5291 In reply to hellspawnz [2017-03-19 15:25:36 +0000 UTC]

but if the brain is you, and it's speaking in 3rd person to say "my brain", then wouldn't you be implying that the brain is the soul, because the soul is you as well?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellspawnz In reply to crazyman5291 [2017-03-19 17:56:08 +0000 UTC]

in real life, or in undertale? because in reality, the brain is you. in undertale, the soul is you. it's the part that casts magic, takes damage and orders the body to move. ripping the soul out of a monster or human would kill them, the same way ripping your brain out in reality would kill you.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crazyman5291 In reply to hellspawnz [2017-03-19 20:56:44 +0000 UTC]

Don't monsters and humans in Undertale have brains though?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hellspawnz In reply to crazyman5291 [2017-03-20 06:50:57 +0000 UTC]

monsters don't. they're magic dust. humans do, but since their soul is their center, not the brain, the brain probably serves a different purpose (such as housing the soul, or collecting and processing data for the soul to use, etc).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crazyman5291 In reply to hellspawnz [2017-03-20 16:06:45 +0000 UTC]

don't humans here have souls though? Wouldn't it be the same for us humans?
