You could probably go a dark dull grey with black markings. That could work. Bright colours as the main coat I wouldnt suggest for this species but anything dull will work nicely

Oooh, that's a scary virus.
I will bet you that a 50 callibre bullet will have an effect. I think that only kevlar would stop a bullet from a good gun, for a 50 cal it would still have to be about an inch of it. Smaller bullets from weaker guns would probably struggle against thick hide. But the rifles that are used to stop an elephant would probably stop it. On the other hand entirely you can disregard the previous and just read the following.
This is a pretty awesome design for a virus affected creature. I wouldn't want to come across one.

I was nitpicking, but I do understand what you mean. If it, perhaps, had mutated sweat glands that produced a similar substance to kevlar, then bam. tank.

I mentioned briefly about lions towards the end. If there were no easy prey and to survive they would kill a lion. But there is also the possibility of a lionness hunting group could take one down. I may try to BS another korturrone virus sheet for lions. haha oh noes the virus jumped!
I would assume these creatures are more interested in easy prey then a fight that could mortally wound them.
